Cynthia Ann Thorogood

On September 17, 2024 Mrs. Cynthia Johnson-Thorogood transitioned into the eternal loving presence of God, Our Creator, and was welcomed with open arms by loved ones who’d arrived to that heavenly destination before her. Cynthia was born on September 22, 1965. Her family hails from Edenton, North Carolina and she was raised in the Park Place community in Norfolk, Virginia. She was the daughter of Mrs. Virginia Clark and was the middle child of the family of three children. Cynthia was educated in the Norfolk Public School System. She graduated from Granby High School in 1985 and went on to pursue a career in the field of healthcare. After several years of working in this industry she decided to transition into a different career path. She became an environmental services specialist at Didlake, a government contracting company. She was a wonderful wife, daughter, sister, auntie, daughter-in-law and friend who treasured each precious moment with family and friends. She was most fulfilled when preparing large, impeccably seasoned feasts for family gatherings. Each homemade hot roll, pan of perfectly baked candied yams, homemade macaroni and cheese and two main courses of chicken and ham would be placed in front of eager diners to enjoy to their heart’s content. Each bite was filled with Cynthia’s love. Everyone who was fortunate enough to partake of one of these feasts can attest to the fact that they were amazing! Not only was each meal tasty beyond imagine, but her hospitality, beautiful smile and attention to detail were heartwarming and made you feel special. Cynthia had a special gift of making everyone feel seen, heard and loved. This was also true of her interactions with what her husband refers to as Cynthia’s “extended family” of nurses, doctors and technicians at the DaVita Norfolk Medical Center. This wonderful group of people would surely have been invited to one of these grand feasts, if time had permitted. Cynthia took great pride in being a homemaker and delighted in having a wonderful home-cooked meal and relaxing tunes playing for her adoring husband when he came home from work. Cynthia and “Monty,” as her husband is affectionately called, represented true relationship goals for everyone who knew them as a devoted couple who took their marriage of 15 years and another 9 years of dating before marriage, very seriously. After 24 combined years of building a life of together, it was clear to everyone that they meant the vows they took to love and cherish one another until death do them part. We have all been blessed to witness their devotion to one another in sickness and in health; and, will forever be reminded that each moment with our loved ones is a gift-one that can only be quantified by the person giving and receiving love. Mrs. Cynthia Johnson-Thorogood leaves to mourn and to cherish fond memories: her husband, Mr. Arlo Montique Thorogood; her mother, Mrs. Virginia Clark; her siblings, Ms. Sandra Johnson and Mrs. Valerie Skinner; her Aunt Gloria Moore and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. “If you could make LOVE into flesh and blood, CYNTHIA would be the personification of it.”
