Velma Deloris Johnson

Velma Deloris Johnson, lovingly called "Peaches, was born April 12,1932 in Savannah, Georgia to the late William and Daisy Bell. God called Peaches home on June 25,2024 Her parents brought her up as a Christian and ensure she knew God from an early age and incorporated Him in every aspect of her life. She was baptized at the tender age of ten at Mt Pleasant Baptist Church. While residing in the Washington, DC area she attended Second New St. Paul Baptist Church where she received numerous awards for a lifetime of service to the church and in particular her service and dedication to the Women's Ministry. She was a member of Choral Concert Community Choir (4C's). She received a Certificate of Religious Studies from Virginia Bible University. Peaches had a love for music which came from her father William Henry Bell, a Minister of Music and from her grandfather Daniel Bell, a Professor of Music. At the tender age of three, Peaches learned to play the piano. Later in life, she received an award from Old Dominion College after successfully completing organ lessons. Because of her love of music and singing, Peaches directed the Youth Choir and played the organ and piano at Macedonia Baptist Church. Her mother Daisy Bell was a beautician and nurse. Peaches followed her footsteps wanting others to feel and look their best. She received a Nursing Certificate from Mats School of Nursing and began working as a nurse at various hospitals and private homes. Peaches also volunteered with the Red Cross and Andrews Air Force Base Hospital. To continue in her mother's footsteps and relish her own passion, Peaches received her Beautician License from Calvinade Beauty Academy. She managed the Comedy Hills Beauty Salon in Seat Pleasant, Maryland for 12 years and became the most loved beautician in the DC/Maryland area. Peaches also served as a substitute teacher for the District of Columbia Public Schools. Peaches met and married the Late Robert Few and from this union, they were blessed with five girls Jackie, Toni, Rosslyn, Ralaunda and Karen. The family has since grown with five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren whom she adored and loved spending time with. Peaches relocated to Chesapeake, Virginia where she met and married Curtis Johnson, this union was blessed for 30 plus years. She is preceded in death by her Brother William H. Bell Jr., Daughters Rosslyn Taliaferro, Ralaunda Few, Karen Few Kandeh and Granddaughter Maya Few. Peaches leaves to cherish her memory, husband Curtis Johnson; Daughters: Jacquenette Few and Antoinette Weldon; special friend Victoria Beaman and care partner Kecia White; Bonus Daughters: Sheila Barnes, Velma Graham(James), Rosylyn Johnson, Marilyn Johnson, Cathy Johnson, Delphine Robertson; Bonus Sons: Stanley Johnson, Efra Johnson and Curtis Johnson; Granddaughters: Trena Few and Sonia Kelly; Grandsons: Anthony Weldon and Kaya Few: 10 Great Grandchildren; 7 Great-Great Grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
