Valerie Marshall Wilson

With heavy hearts and loving memories, we announce the passing of Valerie Wilson, who departed this life on May 17, 2026. Valerie was born on November 26, 1963, to Anna Marshall and the late Raymond Lee Marshall. She was the youngest and beloved baby of the Marshall family, a role she carried with love and pride throughout her life. Valerie was raised surrounded by the love of a large family and remained deeply connected to her siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Lee Marshall, and her sister, Darlene Edwards. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted mother, Anna Marshall, and her siblings: Barry Marshall, Cynthia Little-Hicks, Carolyn Smith, Michelle Robinson, and Raymond Marshall, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who loved her dearly. Valerie shared a beautiful love story with her husband, Andre Wilson. The two met in 1978 and built a relationship that led to marriage in June 1989. Together they created a life filled with family, love, laughter, and lasting memories. She was a proud and loving mother to her sons, Javon Wilson, born in 1998 and described as an unexpected blessing, and another beautiful addition Raheem Wilson, whom she loved wholeheartedly. Her greatest joy was being a mother and creating a home centered around love, family, and support. Valerie spent much of her life in the Bronx, New York, where she raised her children and built meaningful relationships with friends and neighbors. Family was always at the center of her world, and her home was often filled with loved ones. Education was important to Valerie. She attended Grace A. Dodge High School and later studied at Bronx Community College in 1983. She dedicated over three decades of service working for District Council 37, where she built a respected career spanning 32 years before retiring in 2022. Valerie had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for music. R&B was the soundtrack of her life, and she especially enjoyed the music of Joe, Maxwell, Phyllis Hyman, and Janet Jackson. Music brought her joy and connected her to many cherished moments with family and friends. Valerie was never alone for long. She was constantly surrounded by siblings, nieces, nephews, godchildren, family by blood, and family by love. She had a special way of making people feel welcomed, cared for, and seen. She also leaves behind the family she lovingly embraced through marriage, including Bonita Wilson, who knew Valerie since their teenage years while she was dating Andre; Andre’s parents, Bonita Howard and Ronald Wilson; brothers Ed Wilson, Scott Wilson, and Ronald Wilson; sister Cherisse Wilson; beloved goddaughters Bonita Bethel and Lailani Bethel; and many nieces and nephews. Though Valerie’s earthly journey has ended, her love, laughter, music, and presence will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her. “To know Valerie was to know love, family, music, and togetherness. Her memory will continue to live on through every song played, every story shared, and every life she touched.”
