Robyn Underdue

A limb has fallen from the family tree that says, "Grieve not for me, remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the life I lived while I was strong." Robyn T. Underdue, daughter of Geraldine Lacy Townes and the late Richard P. Townes, was born on February 21, 1967 in Queens, New York. She was the sixth of seven children. She departed this earthly life on Friday December 23, 2016 at home. Robyn received her education through New York City Public School System, graduating from John Adams High School in June 1985. She continued her education at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and received her B.A. in Sociology/Social Work Curriculum in May 1989. To keep abreast of the many guidelines and requirements to better serve her clients, Robyn attended numerous workshops and training seminars. At the time of her death, Robyn was a Senior Child Protective Services Worker for the Newport News Department of Human Services. Robyn loved people; she reached beyond her family line to help others. She spent many hours above and beyond her call of duty doing what she could to help someone else. She was a dedicated and untiring worker for twenty-six years in the Human Services field. Robyn received many awards and certifications for her dedicated service throughout Hampton Roads. She was a member of the Hampton Roads Child Fatality Review Team. She worked alongside with Navy Family Advocacy, Department of Social Services Regional Consultant, Child Advocacy Center Multi-Disciplinary Team, attorneys, detectives, and various state organizations. Robyn had a passion for creativity in artwork and traveling the country with her family trying new foods and creating memories and experiences with her family and friends. Robyn was preceded in death by her father, Richard P. Townes and brother, Richard Townes. She leaves to forever cherish the loving memories of her life- her husband, Joe B. Underdue, III; son, Julian Desmond Underdue; daughter; Janell Cinnamon Underdue, of the home; mother, Geraldine L. Townes of Suffolk, VA; sisters, Linda T. Davis and Gwendolyn J. Townes of Elizabeth City, NC; Eva Y. Townes of Brooklyn, NY; Benita R. Townes of New York, NY; one brother, Timothy Townes of Virginia Beach, VA; one uncle, Horace W. Lacy of Havelock, NC; her father and mother in-law, Joe and Clara Underdue of Roanoke Rapids, NC; brother in-law, Tyrone A. Underdue of New York, NY, a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and many friends and acquaintances.
