Precious Angel Rucker

On Wednesday September 6, 2023, Precious Angel Rucker, affectionately known as “Pooka” departed this life in Austin Texas. Precious, daughter of Ramona Smith and Jeryl Carey, was born on June 28,1985 in Nashville Tennessee. Precious spent her early years growing up in Portsmouth, Virginia where she attended public school, graduating from Churchland High School, class of 2004. At an early age, Precious dedicated her life to Christ joining Parkview Methodist Church, and later Martin Luther King Methodist Church in Portsmouth., Virginia. She began her college journey at Virginia State University with a B.S degree in Radio & Technology and later earning two Master’s Degrees, one in Mass Communications. She served as a Radio Personality at Virginia State University’s Smooth Jazz WVST for several years while attending VSU. Post graduation, Precious was blessed to work for several Fortune 500 companies (i.e., Google and Zscaler) in Technology. Precious was witty and loved having fun. She enjoyed traveling, shopping internationally and singing. Precious traveled abroad visiting London, Amsterdam and Paris. Precious traveled to Africa three times mentoring the young women of Ghana. Precious enjoyed spending time with her friends, Shade Hill, Shawnna Sellers, Janee Williams and I-Esha Shantel Henderson, Shauna Frierson and Tiara Nicole Littles. She loved to laugh and enjoy life to the fullest. Her favorite catch phrase was ”Level Up” and “The world is your oyster.” Precious was predeceased in death by her grandparents, Veronica and Ronald Rucker, and her uncle George L. Smith III. She leaves to cherish her memory, her parents, Ramona Smith and Jeryl Carey; siblings, Runel Smith, Roderick Davis, Jonel Smith, Cotrell Davis Shelby Carey, and Jasmine Carey; grandparents, Joseph and Betty Carey; great grandmother Christine Davis; aunt Kimberly Smith; special cousins, Alexandria Burns and Veranda Davis; and a host of other relatives and friends. Precious will be remembered as a beautiful person, fun-loving with a heart and compassion for helping others. She will be missed but never forgotten.
