Mary Bell Wyrick

Mary Lou Bell Wyrick, 70, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in Norfolk, Virginia, transitioning from her earthly home to eternal rest with the Heavenly Father. Fondly known as Mae, Mary was born on September 7, 1953, in Dimebox, Texas (Lee County), to the late Nettie (Davis) Bell and Eugene Bell Sr. She spent her formative years in San Antonio, Texas, where she honed her skills in sewing and baking. Mary's notable talent enabled her to showcase her creativity and dedication in crafting her senior prom dress. Equally adept in the kitchen, her cherry cheesecake became a beloved family favorite. Mary graduated from Sam Houston High School in May 1972 and continued her education at St. Philip's College. After completing several semesters of college, Mary focused her attention on her career in the United States Navy as a Corpsman. Her service led her to various duty stations, from San Diego, California, to Keflavik, Iceland, and Millington, Tennessee, where she met her future husband, Kenneth. Together, they settled in Virginia Beach, where they raised their three children. Mary found contentment in life's simple pleasures, revering her relationship with God as a devoted member of Providence Road Church of Christ, and the bond she shared with her family. She personified kindness and generosity, always putting others' needs before her own. Following her medical discharge from the Navy, Mary embraced a new role as a cherished neighborhood babysitter, endearingly known as Ms. Mary to the children in her care. Her nurturing spirit left enduring memories and impact, evident as many returned to visit her in adulthood, reminiscing about her lovingly prepared pancakes. In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed tending to her family and indulging in her favorite television programs, westerns, and romantic comedies, including Andy Griffith, Gunsmoke, Bonanza, The Rifleman, Sabrina, You’ve Got Mail, French Kiss, and Sleepless in Seattle. Mary is preceded in death by her parents Nettie (Davis) Bell, Eugene Bell, Sr., and her granddaughter, Yara Eliana Rae Rosado. Mary is survived by her devoted children: LaTanya (Wyrick) Rosado (Daniel), Ramiah Wyrick and Calantha (Wyrick) (Sean)Downtain, and their father, Kenneth Wyrick. Grandchildren: Kristopher Downtain, Marissa Downtain, Elisha Rosado, and Ramiah Elija Ray Wyrick. Siblings: Shirley Jean Tripp, Jeannie Marie Massey, Martha Ann Walker, Eugene Bell, Jr., and Sandra Elaine Jones.
