Katie Howard Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Portsmouth- Katie Howard departed this earthly life at Maryview Medical Center and went to her heavenly home on January 8, 2008. She was surrounded by the family she loved and who loved her. She was born on August 18, 1933 in Wilson, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Bryant Joseph and Addie Lucas Winstead. She moved to Portsmouth at an early age and was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System. She was a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School. Katie was the widow of Charles E. Howard, Jr. They spent several years traveling in the United States and Europe while Charles was a member of the United States Air Force. They had one daughter, Crystal Howard Mann. They raised as their own daughter, their niece, Angel Dawn Winstead. Her love for God, led her to join Noble Street Baptist Church where she was a devoted worker for the Lord. Katie was a member of the Missionary Society and the Women’s Group. Until her health failed, she used her culinary skills for church banquets, funerals, weddings, summer camp, birthdays, and weekly luncheons for the Church and Community in Action (CCIA). Katie had a heart of gold when it came to her love of children. She spent her entire adult life loving and caring for children. She was affectionately known as “Aunt Kate” to all “her” children. She now rests with the God of love and leaves her love to: her daughters, Crystal Mann, Angel Winstead; her grandsons, Justin, Jordan, Joshua; her sisters, Dorothy Williams, Deloris Norfleet; brother, Robert Winstead; aunt, Lillie Knight; uncle, Herman Lucas; a brother-in-law, Willie Lindsey, Sr. (Della), special niece, Yolanda Graham (caregiver) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Katie was also preceded in death by her sister, Etta Lindsey, and her niece, Linda Lindsey Beckett. The family will receive friends at J. T. Fisher Funeral Services, 1080 N. George Washington Highway, Chesapeake, VA on Friday, January 11, 2008 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. A life celebration service will be 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at Noble Street Baptist Church, 100 Noble Street, Portsmouth, VA Pastor Henry P.
