Gwendolyn Jackson

Gwendolyn Jackson, 77, of Portsmouth, Virginia was born Gwendolyn Salley on February 1, 1946. She was affectionately known as Gwen and blessed many lives with her beautiful smile and giving heart until God called her home on July 9, 2023. Gwen was preceded in death by her loving parents Rudolph “Duke” Salley, Sr. and Mary Ellen (Walker) Salley; her eldest brother Rudolph “Rudy” Salley, Jr.; husband James E. “Jack” Jackson, and nephew Aubrey Salley, Jr. Gwen accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church, Norfolk, Virginia where she enjoyed participating in their Wednesday Night Bible Studies. Gwen was educated in Portsmouth Public Schools and was an honor graduate of I. C. Norcom High School in the mighty class of 1963. After graduating from high school, Gwen relocated to Cleveland, Ohio where she obtained employment with the United States Postal Service (USPS) and retired after 34 years. After retirement, she returned home to Portsmouth, Virginia in 2003. Gwen was most recently employed as a CNA by The Key, formerly known as SeniorCorp, where she was a devoted and loving caregiver for elderly patients. Gwen had an infectious character, and she never knew a stranger. She was an encourager and will be truly missed by all who knew her. Gwen’s loving and caring personality will be cherished in the hearts of all those who loved her. She is survived by her devoted son Pierre Salley; four granddaughters Ashley Salley, Mariah Duncan, Arianna Sessions, and Piarra Salley,; four great grandsons Malin King, Cartier Willis, Carson Willis, and Dmarion Holmes; two sisters Pamela Ellen Salley, Frennis Salley Black (Winston); one sister-in-law Renee Moses from Houston, Texas, and three brothers Sidney Salley (Merriel), Keith Salley (Sharon), and Aubrey Salley (Ursula); two nieces LaGuamna M. Salley Clemons (Walter), and Cindy Salley-Sampson (Elmo); five nephews Keith Davis, Shawn Reid, Jarvis Salley, Marlo Mullen (Irene), Levon Carson (Kendre), and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, friends, family, and foster children abroad in Thailand and Ethiopia. Family and friends are being received at the Salley Family’s home.
