Ezra Leviticus Godfrey Jr.

Ezra Leviticus Godfrey Jr. (Known to some as Sam, Brother, or Chip), age 62 was born on December 27, 1952 and departed this life on October 21,2015 at Autumn Care Nursing Home. He was predeceased by his father, Ezra L. Godfrey Sr. and brother, Miles M. Godfrey Sr. Ezra Jr. was a graduate of Crestwood High School in Chesapeake, Virginia. There he enrolled in Mechanic school where he became an Auto repair mechanic. Upon completing high school Ezra moved to Washington D.C. where he worked for his Uncles' Miles and Robert Godfrey at their gas station. After some time he got another job working at a Mobil Service Station. He worked there for many years and lastly worked for a Bolden's Auto/limousine shop for an owner by the name of Doc, where he enjoyed fixing cars and chauffeuring customers to and from their destinations. This was Ezra's passion. Between working he found time for a social life. Ezra was handsome, flirtatious, and had a smile that would bring joy to anyone around him. There in D. C. he met the love of his life his wife and best friend, Dianne Jackson and his daughter, Alyson Jackson who were very dear to him. Years later came along his Grandson Alexander Jackson (A.J) who loved to call him Pop-Pop. After all of his working days, Ezra became ill and his sisters convinced him to return to Virginia so that he could be cared for. When he returned, he spent lots of time with his Mother, Barbara Godfrey and Brother, Theodore Godfrey, family, and friends. Ezra enjoyed life and was loved by many. He was the person who walked in the room demanding attention with his outgoing and confident personality. He was determined to make someone's day sitting in the chair with his legs crossed portraying his "cool guy" demeanor, and somehow he always knew when to show up for dinner. Some of his common phrases were, "What time is dinner?", "What did you bring me?", and "What did you cook?" Ezra will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Barrett (Waverly) Pastor Sherline Cooper (Donald) Elder Colby Godfrey (Darlene) Nannette Elliott, Minister Denise A. Smith (Roy), Pastor Frazier Godfrey Sr. (Amanda), Robert J. Godfrey (Audrey), Ezra Jennings, Jackie Nelson, Marvin Gorham, Cynthia Jennings, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
