Edith M. Pinckney

Mrs. Edith Pinckney was born on August 11, 1935, in South Carolina to the late Eady and Josephine Marks. She peacefully received her angel wings on September 6, 2026, at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of her devoted daughter. While living in South Carolina, Edith attended Providence Methodist Church, where she met and married her soulmate, Edward Pinckney. They were married for 70 years. In 1954, Edith and Edward relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they welcomed their only daughter, Linda Pinckney. While in Philadelphia, Edith worked alongside Edward as the secretary for Pinckney Fuel Oil Co., a business owned by Edward and his brother, Charlie Pinckney. Additionally, Edith worked at Clover Knitting Mills as a pieceworker, inspecting fabrics following production. In 2004, Edith and Edward moved to Chesapeake, Virginia, to be closer to their daughter, Linda. After worshiping with Linda at Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church on several occasions, they joined the congregation and became faithful members. Edith was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Pinckney; her parents, Eady and Josephine Marks; and her siblings, Roosevelt Marks, Thomasina Coe, Wilhelmina Abbott, and Joseph Marks. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted daughter, Linda Patterson; two sisters, Margaret Brown and Ruby Marks; grandchildren, Andrew, Andre, and Barri (granddaughter-in-law); great-grandchildren, Jerome, Lauren, Tamiya, Janiya, and Alyssa; and a host of loving relatives, church family members, neighbors, and dear friends. Edith was an active member of the Silver Strand Senior Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Fleet Reserve Association. She held a special passion for plants, nature, and gardening, and found great joy in sitting on the front porch with her husband, visiting with neighbors. For 24 years, Edith shared a special bond with her beloved neighbor, Amy Robinson, and always had treats ready for the neighborhood children. Edith also loved assembling jigsaw puzzles. She could often be found sitting at the dining room table, meticulously placing pieces into her latest project. Anyone who visited during puzzle time was warmly invited to pull up a chair and help find the perfect piece. Although Edith's health had declined over recent years, her joy for life, quiet strength, and indomitable spirit remained steadfast. During her final weeks, she was surrounded by continuous love, warmth, and devoted care. Edith lived graciously and peacefully, always greeting those who visited with a warm, beautiful smile.
