Constance D. Cross

God saw you were getting tired and recovery was not to be, so he put His arms around you and whispered come to me. With tearful eyes we watched as you quietly pass away. Although we love you deeply, we know we could not make you stay. We can now rest in knowing that you have found sweet peace. Constance Diane Cross, departed this life on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 2, 1948 in Portsmouth, Virginia, to the late Ellis and Delane “Jenkins” Richardson. Constance (Connie/Diane) as she was affectionately known by others was loved and respected by many and was a mother to many. She was formerly married to the late Cecil R. Cross, Sr., and to this union three sons were born. She had a gift for working with children so she followed her mother’s footsteps and was employed as a teacher with the Karver Kiddie College (a pre-school for daily religious training) under the direction of Rev. Thomas B. Hargrave. In 1975, she and her family joined Community Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth, Virginia. Upon locating to Richmond she was employed in the Richmond Public School System as a teacher’s aide. Her passion and sharp ability to pay attention to details lead her to employment with the Internal Revenue Service in Richmond, Virginia, retiring after 27 years of devoted service. She is predeceased by her parents, Ellis and Delane Richardson, and two brothers, Wesley Richardson and Rudy A. Richardson. She leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Cecil R. Cross, Jr., (Martha) of Richmond, VA; Cameron D. Cross (Angela) of Quinton, VA; and Corey D. Cross (Tammy) of Richmond, VA; four grandchildren, Randy Artis of Durham, NC; JeRan Cross, Asia Cross and Corey Ellis Cross all of Richmond, VA; one brother, Lt. Colonel Danny G. Richardson, retired (Rosemary) of Frederick, MD; four sisters, Joyce R. Lang (Clinton) of Hampton, VA; Joan E. Richardson of Louisville, KY; Raynell Williams-Akram (Khalid) of Chesapeake, VA and Lorri D. Richardson of Portsmouth, VA; sisters-in-laws, Lillian V. Richardson of Gahanna, OH; Carolyn Woodard(Doc), Barbara Mann and Delores Dudley, of Portsmouth, VA; Gloria Jordan(Barry) of Chesapeake, VA; Sylvia Davis of Durham, NC; Sandra Martin of Chicago, IL; brother-in-laws, Miles Cross (Armenta) of Chicago, IL; Atlas Ingram, (Chole) of MD and David Cross (Juanita), of Richmond, VA; two very special sisters/friends, Mrs. Judy Mitchell and Mrs. Faye Matthews both of Richmond, VA and a host of other relatives and friends.
