Bettie Jean Williams

On May 29,2026, Mother B. Jean Williams or "Nanny" as her grandchildren affectionately called her finished her race and is now resting with her Savior. Mother Willliams was born November 20 , 1938, in Rocky Mount North Carolina to the late Louis and Augusta Williams. Her siblings include Louis Williams (Evelyn), Bernard Williams, Gloria Lantz, Delores Southall, Leatrice Peterson, Eddie Mae Moore, Nora Freeman and Douglass Valentine. In 1953, she married Reginald Black Sr. The union produced five children. Regina Ratcliff (Paul), Veronica Rawlings (Steven), Reginald Black Jr (Margie), Adrian Black (Clara) and Christopher Black who preceded her in death. On January 6, 1967, she married Bernard Williams who she remained married to for over twenty-eight years until his death in 1995. This union added to her family with children Wanda Flowers, Bernadette Huggins and her son, the late Michael Williams. Mother Jean accepted the Lord as her Savior in the early 1980s. She immediately began work supporting her beloved church- Saint Mark Church of Deliverance under the leadership of Chief Apostle Marion Jones. In fact, she started and led the kitchen committee for many years. She was known for her organization, attention to detail and most of all the best cakes and potato jacks in the world. She said her secret ingredient was the love she put into every morsel of food she created and served. She continued with the Ministry of hospitality and cooking by regularly hosting the Peninsula young people for Sunday dinner in between services. Nanny had a special love for the young people of the church. This was evident by her house on Cavalier Blvd being a haven full of love and food for the youth. She continued to support the ministry under the leadership of Bishop Martha Provo in any capacity she was needed. Nanny loved her family and was proud of them. She would often remark that they got their good genes from her. She leaves behind her children, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and a few great, great grandchildren who are testaments to her legacy of love, family and service to the Lord. She will be greatly missed by her family and her church. 2 Timothy 4:7-“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
