Antonio Lamont Gibbs

On Monday, February 1, 2021, God called Antonio Lamont Gibbs home to rest. He was born on June 15, 1975, in Norfolk, VA to the late Herbert Settles, Jr, and Donel Kennard. He was preceded in death by his father Herbert Settles, Jr, and his grandfather Herbert Settles Sr. Antonio then moved to Portsmouth, VA where he attended Portsmouth Public Schools. He was employed for many years in the Janitorial service field where he worked at Norfolk Sentara Hospital until becoming ill. Antonio is also known to many as "Tony", was a man that loved GOD, had great Faith, and often said, "Don't know how God is going to heal me but I'll wait on him". Without a shadow of a doubt, he was a man that loved the Lord. As a child, Tony attended the Greater House of Faith, under the leadership of Bishop John S Harrell and Judith Harrell. While attending the Greater House of Faith he was baptized, confessed the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior, and received the teachings that would help shape his foundation. He later transitioned to the Greater Revival Center, under the leadership of Bishop Erenda Kennard and Overseer Kennard, where he received the gift of the Holy Ghost, and he along with his wife served as Youth Pastor and oversaw the music department. Tony loved to laugh, and was passionate about music, and enjoyed making songs, playing his guitar, dabbing on the keyboard and drums while always being willing to teach others to do the same. Not only did Tony love the Lord, but he loved his wife, his girls, his family (not all determined by blood), his in-laws (the late Edward L Hooper), and his friends. Tony was a man that did not speak much but when he did speak it was either filled with wisdom or laughter. He was an encourager and had a way of helping others see the good in their situation no matter what he was going through or how he was feeling. He was a person of action and great determination that was displayed by being there for others with no questions asked and doing what he said he was going to do. He was selfless and made sure if it was a ride needed, musical instruments, a musician, or a reality check by way of tough love, Tony made sure you got it. Antonio leaves to adore and treasure his memories, his lovely wife Tonya Gibbs; four beautiful girl's, Shantonia Cofield (Kane), Maya Gibbs, Donya Johnson, and Alesia Gibbs; Mother, Donel Kennard (Erenda), Bonus-father, Elijah Vaughan; his grandparents William Lee Gibbs, Madeline Gibbs and Nannie Lee Settles,; Four Sisters, Djuana Dixon-McCall (Darryl), Venetia Sessoms (Travles) Latisha Brown(Terrance) and Felicia Chang(Jason); three brothers, Darrius Vaughan, Phillip and Isaiah Vaughan (bonus brothers); grandchildren KJ and Baby Nova, his in laws Sandra Hooper, Linda Davis (Elijah), Terri White(Joshua), Timothy Odom, Christopher Ellis, Edward Hooper III, Barbra Warren (God-mother) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, his beloved caretaker Elijah Davis(DJ) and friends. We will miss getting your funny messages and hearing you say, “What in the world” and “Yall let that mess go”! We thank you for your words of wisdom, infectious laugh, and smile. Tony, you will be very deeply missed but we will forever hold you in our hearts. Well done thy good and faithful servant, until we meet again!
