Sherrie Dawson
January 24, 1963 - January 28, 2022
Sherrie Harris Dawson transitioned from life to the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 28, 2022. Sherrie lived a vibrant and full life and was known for her bubbly personality who enjoyed serving all those she came in touch with. Sherrie’s life began on January 24, 1963, in Wiesbaden, Germany to James and Ada Harris. The Harris family moved back to the United States and made their home in Virginia, where Sherrie was raised and resided. Sherrie graduated from Maury High School in 1980 and Norfolk State University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications and was featured often in Norfolk State commercials. Sherrie had a full career that spanned industries throughout Illinois and Virginia, most recently as a Patient Advocate at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk. Sherrie’s co-workers would be greeted by her bright smile and energetic gospel music upon entering her office space. Sherrie was an active volunteer and her coworkers often asked her to pray for them during times of trouble. Sherrie would share the gospel of Jesus Christ to her coworkers, patients, and anyone she met. Sherrie was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia, under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Sidney Foster, Jr and current pastor, Rev. Dr. Sammie L. Logan, III. Sherrie repented of her sins and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior many years ago. Sherrie’s relationship with Christ was her focal point, and she was highly involved in her church, serving in several ministries such as the Choir, Drama Team, Vacation Bible School, and assisted in the Parking Lot Ministry. Sherrie made sure her sons were involved in various youth activities at church for their spiritual well-being. Sherrie’s favorite ministry, however, was the Hospitality and Beautification Ministry. Sherrie was known for decorating the church for holidays and greeting new members and guests upon their arrival at the church. Sherrie married Robert Dawson on May 19, 2015, and their love was on full display as they attended New Hope together for the remainder of her life. Sherrie and Robert faithfully attended New Hope and participated in Bible Study for their continued spiritual growth in the Lord. Sherrie spoke often of her love for her tall, quiet husband, who carefully tended to her every need as her primary caregiver as her life drew to a close. When Sherrie celebrated good health, her hobbies were cooking, crafting and gardening; and if she was not participating in those activities, she was watching home improvement or cooking shows. Sherrie was known for her infectious smile, her generosity and her loving spirit to all she came in contact with. Sherrie was preceded in death by her father Aaron A. Williams, Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband Robert Dawson, her sons Corbin Harris and Derrick Harris, her mother Ada Williams, her sisters Annette Davis (Norman), Charlene Harris; brothers James T. Harris, Jr., Irving Harris; sisters-in-law Yurica Hartley, Roberta Dawson; brothers-in-law Edward Dawson, Rico Dawson and Carlton Lemon; mother-in-law Anna B. Dawson; three grandchildren Alaun, Zaeden and Caelum; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
