Sandra Elizabeth Young

Today we pause to celebrate the life and memory of Sandra Elizabeth Richardson Young who passed from labor to reward on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. She was a blessing to all who knew her, and her family is better because of her time here on earth. Sandra was the fifth of eight children born to the late Edward P. Richardson and Mary Elizabeth Brown Richardson Tolbert. At a very young age, Sandra was baptized at Little Zion Baptist Church in Bowers Hill,Virginia . She later joined Saint Mark Missionary Baptist Church where she worked with the Scholarship Ministry. She regularly attended church and looked forward to attending Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Tribe of Ruben. Sandra graduated from Crestwood High School in 1964. After graduation, she was employed with General Electric Company and Cannon as Line Leader. After retiring, she began working at Kmart as the Manager of the eatery where she was able to showcase her culinary skills and her love of caring for others. Sandra met the love of her life Andrew Young in the early 1970’s. They married May 22, 1976, and together they raised her son Keith Richardson. In 1999, Sandra moved her family from Portsmouth to Hampton, Virginia so that she could take care of her mom. She did this even while continuing to work a full time job. She later moved back to Portsmouth. She will be remembered for her laughter, her infectious smile, her love of family, her honesty, her caring spirit and her sweet potato pies. Sandra was predeceased by her dad, her mom, her brothers Albert Jerry and Edward, and her sister Barbara. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Andrew Young, her loving son Keith Richardson of Portsmouth, VA., one brother Robert Richardson (Lucy) of Fort Washington, MD, three sisters Wilhelmina Avery of Orange City, Florida, Laura Person (James) of Fort Washington, MD, Patricia Givens (Ernest) of Temple Hills, MD, 2 granddaughters, Keondra Richardson and Shauntia Richardson, 2 great granddaughters Aubrie Archer and Alaya Vayas Torres , one special cousin – Gloria Rayner, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. “Cares all past; Home at Last; Ever to Rejoice!!”
