A TIME TO BE BORN: Petral Generis Nelson was born May 6, 1963, in Charleston, SC as the fifth child of Albert Nelson Sr. and Louise Nelson. He was raised in Charleston until he was 4 years old then move to New York, followed by Boston, MA. When he became a teenager, he moved to Chesapeake, VA where he continued to live as an adult. A TIME TO LEARN: As a little boy up until his early teenage years, Petral collected baseball cards. In fact, he had a spectacular collection of baseball cards. Pete loved sports so much that he began playing baseball, hockey, and basketball. When he moved to Virginia as a teenager, Petral attended Deep Creek H.S. and was taught how to play football as a Defensive Tackle. He eventually developed his game in football and with his great personality, people began calling him by his nick name “Sweet Pete”. Sweet Pete had many friends and was extremely popular! As a matter of fact - there are many trophies in his name that still grace the hallways of Deep Creek High School. As a senior in HS, Petral obtained a scholarship to a university which he never took advantage of. Instead, he chose to work with his brothers and father at Nelson & Sons Construction Company as a carpenter for many years up until his passing. A TIME TO SERVE: Petral was baptized into the Church of Christ at a young age where he studied and learned many things about the word of God. A TIME TO LOVE: Petral fathered two beautiful daughter – Monique Laverne Johnson and Verlon Louise Saunders. He also loved Monique’s sister, Lorena Marie Johnson who he considered his daughter. His girls loved him for being such a lively person, he was rarely sad! Whether he was bumping into them softly to get their attention and make them smile, telling jokes to make them laugh, holding a simple conversation, or singing his favorite R&B songs, his cheerful personality and great sense of humor always came through for them to see. Pete was also a grandpa of one. He was so crazy about his granddaughter Madison aka Maddie and loved her so much. Uncle Pete also adored his nieces and nephews. He made a point to keep in contact with them to see how they were doing and to share stories or tell a funny joke. He did this to show them how he cared in his own special way. A TIME TO REJOICE: Petral departed this life on Thursday, June 2, 2022. He proceeded in death by his grandmother Mary Daniels, father, Albert Nelson Sr., brother, Phillip Nelson, grandson Mason Romel Andrews, daughter Monique Johnson. Left to cherish his memories: Mother Louise Nelson (Chesapeake, VA), Daughter Verlon Saunders (Silver Springs, MD), Step-Daughter Lorena Johnson (Chesapeake, VA), Granddaughter Madison Alyse Clifton-Johnson (Newport News, VA), Sister Trucella Hayes (George) (Portsmouth, VA), Brother Albert “Al” Nelson Jr. (Chesapeake, VA), Brother Steve Nelson (Tiana) (Chesapeake, VA), several Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and Friends.
