Michael Eugene Griffin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On Friday evening, May 13, 2022, God called Michael E. Griffin (AKA G-Money), beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend home from labor to reward. Born July 1,1960, to Eugene and Lannie Griffin, a sweet and quiet baby boy. Michael received his education through the Portsmouth Public School system where he participated in sports, mainly track and field. He graduated from Manor High School and began his working career at NORSHIPCO through the Apprenticeship Program. Afterwards he began working in 1984 at Norfolk Naval Shipyard where he dedicated 38 years of service. Michael was a faithful member of the First Church of Deliverance in Portsmouth, Virginia where he served on the Finance Committee. He loved his family unconditionally and had a close relationship with wife, his only son and only brother. He also had a special love for his only grandson Zaiden and daughter Ashanti. Michael enjoyed family vacations at least twice a year and mini vacations throughout the year. He had a very quiet spirit and was very soft spoken. He loved dining out, mainly Surf and Turf restaurants. He loved the beach atmosphere and fishing when possible. Michael's life would seem too short to many but those who were touched by his wisdom understood the quality of his existence far exceeded the quantity of time in which he lived. His helpful hand and words of encouragement will forever be in our hearts. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Lannie Griffin, aunts and uncles. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Rhonda F. Griffin, an awesome son, Michael E. Griffin II (Keosha), loving daughter Ashanti L. Hill, special grandson Zaiden L. Philpot, supportive brother and best friend, Crandell Griffin (Tina), two awesome nephews, Crandell Griffin II (aka Lil Cray), Jabriel Griffin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, in-laws and friends. Michael didn't hang around many people but did speak highly of one of his favorite couples, Kevin aka KO and his wife Della.
