On Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at 7:08 AM, Katie Mae Baker departed from this earthly life for her eternal rest and peace with the Lord. Katie Mae was born June 14, 1932 in Norfolk County, Virginia to the late Charles Major Riddick and the late Mary Etta Riddick. She was one of eleven children and was educated in the Norfolk County, Virginia School System. She had many jobs including working at Lake Wright Hotel from which she had to medically retire. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2632 Seven Eleven Road in the City of Chesapeake, Virginia. She served as a missionary, deaconess and Mother of the church. She tireless supported the programs of the church including Church Anniversaries, Men and Women Day Services, Family and Friend Day Services, Christmas Programs and Church Picnics. She was previously married to the late Charlie Bright. From that union there were four children; Dexter Bright, Thomas Bright, Tarry Bright and Mary Bright Wilson. She later married Cecil Baker Sr. From that union came David Bright (Janice), Joann Baker (Edward Cox) and Jeanice Butler (Elliott). From Cecil’s previous marriage; Samuel Baker, Beverly Culpepper (Martin) and the late Cecil Baker Jr. (Wilma). Katie Mae Baker was predeceased by her parents, Charles Major Riddick and Mary Etta Riddick. Sisters; Evelena Perry Martha Cherry, Mariah Riddick, Liza Riddick, Lillian Riddick and Beulah Riddick Rice. Three brothers; Wright Riddick, Ivory Riddick and Joe Simon Riddick, Sr. Aunts; Willie Gray, Rosa Johnson, Pauline Johnson, Gladys Pace and Beulah Gray. Uncle, Calvin Gray. Katie Mae leaves to cherish her memories, her five daughters and four sons. One surviving, loving, kind sister, who will miss her dearly, Eula Mae Brooks, Chesapeake Va. One surviving Sister In-Law, Syvella Riddick, Chesapeake, Va. One of many nieces, Rosa Johnson, who was raised as a sister (Curtis), Chesapeake, Va. One aunt, Reverend Lillie Gray, Chesapeake Va. Special niece, Jacqueline Bunch, who she help to raise and care for in the time of need and was recognized as a sixth daughter. Seventeen Grand Children, twenty seven Great Grand Children and a host of Great -Great Grand Children, nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, friends and church family. Katie Mae was a caring, loving, kind, compassionate and generous woman who loved and supported her parents, her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She also loved and supported her sisters and brothers, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She served the Lord all her life and in return, God blessed her to feed the hungry, clothed the naked, house the homeless and be a nurse to the sick and shut in.
