Janet W. Terry

On Friday, December 30, 2022, Janet Williams Terry, 82, our beloved Mama, grandmother, Nana, mother-in-love, aunt, cousin and friend departed this life and went home to eternal life with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Janet was born on April 15, 1940, to the late James Williams and Alberta Yelity in Littleton, NC. She was educated in the North Carolina School Systems and graduated from Mciver High School. After graduation Janet relocated to Portsmouth, VA with family. She began employment with Murro Chemical Company and soon realized her love for cooking. From this love, she was employed with Portsmouth Public Schools (Westhaven Elementary and Douglas Park Elementary) as a Food Service Worker for 32 years. After retiring, she volunteered at St. Mark Christian Academy as the Head Kitchen Attendant. Janet was a faithful member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a dedicated member of Sunday School and loved the Relief Usher Ministry. Janet would not missed an opportunity to served as a doorkeeper. Janet was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and maternal aunts and uncles. Janet leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters: Carlise Choate, Chicago, IL, Jennifer Porter, Portsmouth, VA; one son: Anthony A. Terry (Ninette), Suffolk, VA, one brother: Ernest Dennis Williams, Los Angeles, CA, five grandchildren: Angelica Peele, Jamecia Peele, Anthony A. Terry, II (Jasmine), NaTesha, Terry, Akadeyon Terry and two bonus grandchildren: Ashly and Antoine Adams, seven great-grandchildren: J'yLunden Jones, Camryn Jones, K'yden Jones, Alaya-Jo Terry, Alaijah Terry, Milaun Jones, and Aniya Rae Carrington, eight adoptive children: Sherrill Dancy, Beverly Ellis, Kim Jordan, Fontella McKenzie, Vera Maloney, Sandra Smith, Joyce Roberts and Quincy Jones and one goddaughter: Kiana Fields. Her best friends/sisters: Mary Alice Jones and Gloria Roberts, special son-in-law: Doug Peele, and special friend: Casper Turner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Janet loved to live by this scripture: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
