This is to certify that our brother, nephew, cousin, friend and Godfather, Horace Riddick, the first child born December 20th, 1934 to the Late Evelena Riddick Perry. The first grandchild of maternal grandparents, the late Charles Major Riddick and Mary Etta Gray Riddick. Horace attended Norfolk County Public Schools. He was an original lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Pentecostal Holiness Church and also shared his love and membership with Baptist Rock Baptist Church, both located in the City of Chesapeake, Virginia. Horace song of comfort was “On My Way Home”. On Wednesday, February 17th, 2021 at 3:40 P.M., Horace finally completed his 86 years lifelong journey while a patient at Chesapeake Regional Hospital, entered the Pearlie Gates of Heaven where the Streets are paved with Gold, where he is absent from his body but his soul is present with the Lord. Horace was employed by the International Longshoreman Association (ILA) Local 1458 and retired in 1992, after many years of service. Horace also worked various part time jobs, with employment ranging from the City of Norfolk Water Department, Security Guard with the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, VA., and a Security Guard with the Norfolk Community Hospital, Norfolk, VA. Horace leaves to cherish his memories, two brothers, Joseph Perry Jr., of Chesapeake, VA. Darnice Perry of Norfolk, VA. Brother-in-Law, Melvin Bell of Suffolk, VA. Three maternal aunts; Katie Baker, Eula Brooks and Syvella Riddick, all of Chesapeake, VA. A host of Godchildren to include Goddaughters: Dorothy Smith (Archie), Susan Reid (Jason), Myra Rice, Gardeen Johnson, Eleanor Satterfield all of Chesapeake, VA., and Jeanice Cuffee Butler (Elliott), of Portsmouth, VA. A host of other family members, friends, church family and fellow Longshoremen. Horace had no biological children but loved, cherished, and spoiled every one of his Goddaughter’s children and their grandchildren and every great grandchild and called them all his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his Goddaughters, his daughters. We all loved him in return and treated him with great respect, love and admiration. Horace was predeceased by his mother, Evelena Perry and Stepfather Joseph Perry Sr. Father, Willie Brown. Maternal Grandparents, Charles Major Riddick and Mary Etta Gray Riddick. Sisters; Eloise Perry and Portia Bell. Five Maternal Aunts; Martha Cherry, Mariah Riddick, Liza Riddick, Lillian Riddick and Beulah Riddick Rice. Three Maternal Uncles; Wright Riddick, Ivory Riddick and Joe Simon Riddick, Sr. Great Aunts; Willie Gray, Rosa Johnson, Pauline Johnson, Gladys Pace and Beulah Gray. Great Uncle, Calvin Gray.
