Fred Simpson Jr.

Fred Andy Simpson, Jr., was born to Thelma Hattie Chisholm and Fred Andrew Simpson, Sr. in Charlotte, NC, both who preceded him in death. He was the eldest of seven children born to that union. In 1946 Fred Sr. and Thelma relocated their family to Indianapolis, IN where Fred Jr., would attend the Capital Avenue SDA Church and the Capital Avenue SDA School through the 10th grade. Fred completed his secondary education at Indiana Academy in Cicero, IN and received his high school diploma in May of 1962. Fred did handy work for the next two years with his father that included auto mechanics, gardening and helping to further build Capital Avenue (City) SDA School. In March of 1964 Fred enlisted in the US Navy serving during the Vietnam conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and served in the US Naval Reserves until 1970. He was greatly affected mentally and physically as a result of the war. He returned to Indianapolis in 1981 after having lived in Philadelphia, PA for several years. In that same year, he met Brenda Satterfield where they (Nedra, Brenda and Fred) dated for one year before Nedra asked their hand in marriage. They married two years later, in 1983. To this union would be born two sons, Fred, III and Lyle. He continued his Post-Secondary education at Lincoln Technical institute from 1981 until 1983, where he received an associate degree in automotive technology. Because of his high grades he was asked to deliver the keynote address to his graduating class. After working in the automotive field he returned to school and attended Indiana University, with a focus in General Studies. He was a manager for Shell Oil Company before beginning work for Catheter Research from 1984 as the QA Director where the very first remote controlled heart catheters with cameras were invented. Fred was an active member in his community serving on the Board of Directors for The Retreat Cooperative from 1984 through 2005. He was a member of Capitol City SDA Church from 1981 until 2001 when he moved his membership to the Tabernacle of Hope Seventh-Day Adventist Church. At "Tab" he served as a Deacon and Elder until the family moved to Chesapeake Virginia, Brenda's hometown, in the summer of 2006. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 33 years, Brenda Anita; three children: Nedra Satterfield-Simpson, Fred Andrew III, and Lyle Carter (Kimberly) all of Chesapeake, VA. Three grandchildren: Darrale "Rockette", Imari, and Lylah. Six siblings: Louis (Debbie), Joseph, Dollie Fisher, Harold (Shirley) all of Indianapolis, IN; Geraldine Chambers (Herb) of Bowie, Maryland, and Beatrice Simpson of Anchorage, AL, and Fred's very best friend of more than 40 years, Lyle Green of Philadelphia, PA. He also leaves to mourn one aunt - Mary Anderson of Charlotte, NC, a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
