Edward Carl Brakob

Edward Carl Brakob Sr., beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, passed away at home on July 3, 2024, at the age of 77. Born on January 12, 1947, in Ada, Minnesota, Ed was the son of Hans and Irene Brakob. He grew up alongside his siblings and developed a strong work ethic and love for his family and community. Ed graduated from Twin Valley High School in 1965 and furthered his education at Thief River Falls Vocational Technical School, graduating in 1967. Ed married his beloved wife, Kathy Brakob, on June 18, 1966, and together they built a life filled with love and devotion. Ed was a dedicated father to his two sons, Eddie and Devin, and took great pride in their accomplishments. He cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather to five grandchildren: David, Courtney, Dakota, Brittney, and Dylan and four great grandchildren: Emilyn, Joy, Cora, and Henry. Professionally, Ed had a fulfilling 35-year career as an airplane mechanic, beginning with Piedmont Airlines and later transitioning to American Airlines. Post-retirement, Ed continued to contribute to his community, serving as a security monitor at Butts Road Elementary School for 8 years. Ed had a passion for gardening and spent many peaceful hours tending to his plants. He enjoyed taking long walks, sharing jokes that brightened the lives of those around him, and working outdoors in the fresh air. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Brakob; devoted son, Devin Brakob, and daughter-in-law, Ann; grandchildren, David (Kim), Courtney (Cameron), Dakota (Parker), Brittney, and Dylan; great grandchildren Emilyn, Joy, Cora, and Henry; and his surviving siblings, Carolyn, Anna (Curtis), Colleen, Lyle (Margaret), Hank (Colleen), and Hans; and his late son Eddie's widow, Christa Biernot. He was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Brakob in 2014, and his siblings Carol, Doris, and Arthur. A memorial service to celebrate Ed's life will be held at Hickory United Methodist Church at 2708 Battlefield Blvd. South, Chesapeake, Virginia, on July 13, 2024, at 2:00 pm. The family kindly requests no flowers.
