Doretha “Doddie” F. Baker was an exceptional wife, mother, daughter, friend, relative, grandmother and great grandmother. It was with a heavy heart that we announced her passing on February 26, 2021. Doretha was born to the late Curtis and Laura Foster on September 21, 1944 in Inman, South Carolina. Dortha joined Ridgeville Baptist Church at a very early age. She graduated from Foster Grove High School in Inman, South Carolina in 1961. Later, relocating to Baltimore, Maryland, she met her best friend and husband Rudy A. Baker, and they were united in holy matrimony for 53 years. Doretha and Rudy loved dining out and traveling. She traveled extensively while Rudy was in the U. S. Navy, traveling to Jamaica, Mexico, Spain, France and living in Italy for four years. Settling in Chesapeake, VA, Doretha joined New Hope Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the Combined Ushers, Happy Am I Ministry, Senior Missionary and the Busy Bee Seniors. She had a beautiful spirit and was loved by her New Hope family. Doretha was predeceased by her mother and father, Curtis and Laura Foster, and her brothers, Calvin, William (Dub), Tommy and Wayman. Doretha leaves in God’s care a loving and devoted husband Rudy, daughter Lynette Boyd, a son Alvin Lamont (Shelvi Young), two sisters, Angie Foster Hudson (Leon) of Oxon Hill, MD; and Grace Hughes of Inman, SC; six grandchildren, LaShawna, Derrick, Kalil, Kharon, Kainen and Kastle; a great grandson Chance; a very special aunt Mrs. Fannie Crawford of McDonough, GA, and two very special friends Viola Ford and Florence Hines, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Doretha will be laid to rest at a graveside service on March 25, 2021 at Ridgeville Baptist Cemetery, 385 Ridgeville Baptist Church Road in Inman, South Carolina at 1pm.
