Darryl R. Butts
September 20, 1961 - February 12, 2022
On Saturday, February 12, 2022, Our Heavenly Father called our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, MR. DARRYL RENARD BUTTS, home to his eternal rest. Darryl was born September 20, 1961, to the late David T. Butts and Emily Brooks Butts. Darryl, affectionately known as “Debo”, grew up in the Mt. Herman section of Portsmouth, Virginia. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System. He went on to join the United States Army. He held a great number of jobs spanning a variety of industries, earning him the title “Jack of all trades”. A few of those jobs included trucking, a managerial position at Hampton Roads Transit, where he retired after many years of service, and he had finally earned his “spot in the yard” at Norfolk Naval Shipyard at the time of his death. Darryl accepted Christ at an early age. He served many years, after marriage, at Rehoboth AME Church then later moved his membership to Church of El Shaddai where he served as a Trustee member and worked tirelessly to help renovate and restore the church building. Debo was predeceased in death by three brothers, Oliver Brooks, Jerome Butts and David Butts, Jr. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 25 years, Phyllis A. Butts, one daughter, Candace Allsbrook, two stepdaughters, Taneka Brown (Thomas) and Dara James, one stepson, Raymond Taylor, Jr., five brothers, Lessell Brooks, Michael Butts (Jeanette), James Butts (Shirley), Wendell Butts, Corey Butts (Yolanda), two sisters, Emily Bracey (George) and Minnette Moone, six grandchildren, Ashlee, Jaylon, Samiyah, Ranyjah, Taylor and Autumn, one “special son”, Sean Savage and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
