Charles R. Cherry

Charles Reginold Cherry was born May 19, 1935, in Windsor, North Carolina to Maude & Author Cherry. They had five children. Charles being the oldest was pre-deceased by Denton Cherry, Chester and his wife Doris Cherry, Lanora and her husband, Robert Arrington, Margaret Archie Cherry. Charles attended John B. Bonds High School where he graduated and drove the school bus all while he continued to work on the farm. From here Charles met and dated Lucy Mae Vinson. After reuniting in holy matrimony in July 1953, Charles and Lucy had Five children. They were married for 45 years. They relocated to Portsmouth Va. Charles worked at Hertz rental cars as an attendant and mechanic. He enjoyed taking pictures, videoing events, working on cars, oil paintings, watching westerns, Perry Mason and cooking. April 3, 2000, Charles lost his first wife Lucy. In 2001, Charles met Fannie Brinkley and the two were married on November 30, 2002. Charles gained 7 step- children. Charles retired from Hertz rental car after 50 years. In the year 2002, Charles joined Divine Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board and Sunday School Superintendent. Charles was a faithful servant until his health started to take a toll. He leaves behind to celebrate his legacy, his wife Fannie Brinkley Cherry, six children, Deacon Donnell Cherry of Portsmouth, VA and wife (Marion), Otis Cherry of Waterbury, Ct and wife (Celestine), Pastor Wallace Cherry of Durham, NC and wife (Pastor Ozalie Cherry), Lucy Dawson of Portsmouth, Va and husband (Ronald D). Sylvia Cherry of Portsmouth, Va. Sheja Leary of Newport News, Va, Husband (Ronald). 15 Grandchildren and 19 Great Grandchildren; Seven Stepchildren, Michael Brinkley, Rita Brinkley, Abrunder Artis (Huther), Gwendolyn Griffin (Ronnie), Karen Neal (Keith), Ulysses Brinkley (Verita), Ronell Brinkley, all residing in Chesapeake. 5 sisters In-Law: Larree Cherry; Apostle Olivia D. Sharp; Dorothy Jenkins; Norma Williams; 3 Brothers In-Law: Bailey Williams of Hampton, Va; Elijah Williams (Ida); Samuel Williams (Maggie) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.
