Brendette Haden

It is said that in the door there is everlasting darkness, but with God, the door of death is the way to everlasting light. The light shines beyond the grave. Just a few days ago, Brendette went beyond the darkness into the marvelous light of God, where there is never darkness by the going down of the sun, but where the sun shines forever more. The late Brendette Peele-Haden made her transition from Earth to Glory on Friday, April 6, 2018 in her home surrounded by family. She was born on February 6, 1960 to the late Pecolia and Raymond W. Peele in Portsmouth, Virginia at Maryview Hospital. Brendette had a love for adventure and music at an early age that allowed her to become the devoted and fun-loving person we adore. She began her journey in the love of music while attending Manor High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. As an ambitious teenage she was a proud member of the “Mighty Mustangs” marching band where she mastered the flute and the alto saxophone. In 1978, she graduated from Manor High School and went on to attend Norfolk State University where she later graduated with her B.A. in Business Management in 1983. During that time she met the love of her life whom would become her husband, Gary Haden. They later married and had two great children; one son and one daughter. During her life, Brendette not only served God, her family, and friends but she served our country for many decades working for the Department of Defense in Norfolk, Virginia. She shared her great smile, her funny stories, and her infectious spirit with all those she came in contact with. As a mother of teenage children, she inspired both her children to serve the community and be role models to their peers as they were too members of their high school band. As a Band Parent she was the Band Booster President and also awarded the Parent of the Year multiple times for her dedication not only to her children but to the other young adults in the band. She was a member of Grove Baptist Church where she was a faithful member of the Grove Usher Ministry. From her years in college until her forever journey she was an active and dedicated member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. to whom she loved dearly. Brendette leaves many cherished memories with her loving and devoted husband of 34 years, Gary Haden. From this blessed union were born two children, Andre G. Haden (Erika) and Brittney P. Haden. Other survivors include her loving granddaughter Addison Grace Haden, father Raymond W. Peele; two sisters, Anita Riddick (Marvin) and Sonya Peele; three brothers, Lamar Peele, Terry Peele, and Darwin Peele; five brothers-in-law, Robert Haden, Reginald Haden, Gregory Haden (Retha), Ernest T. Haden (Janice), and Daryl Haden; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Franklin (deceased) and Paulette Haden ; seventeen nieces and nine nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins; and a host of special friends. Brendette was predeceased by her mother Pecolia Peele. The Strife is over The Battle is won The song of triumph has begun: Alleluia!
