Willie Lee Snead Jr

On February 26, 2025, our beloved Willie Lee Snead Jr., affectionately known as “Kookie”, was called by his Master and to accept his heavenly reward. “Kookie” was born on December 12, 1946, in Wilmington, NC to the late Willie Luster Snead and Mary Everette Snead. He relocated to Newport News, VA in his younger years where he grew up and received his education. He was a 1965 graduate of Huntington High School. Shortly after high school, he met the love of his life Ruby Baker and the two would marry, and remained married for 58 years. Through their union they had five children: Lonnie (Arnissa) of White Plains, MD; David (Veronica) of Virginia Beach, VA; Kodel of Dallas/Fort Worth, TX, Amanda (Derrick) of Portsmouth, VA; Alyson of Virginia Beach, VA. Memories will forever be in the hearts of his two sisters: Ann Turner of Fort Washington, MD; and Judy Jacobs (Thomas) of Fredericksburg, VA; his Brother in Laws and Sister in Laws: George Baker, Isiaah Baker (Carolyn), Miles Baker (Jean), Ella Baker; his 16 grandchildren; his 4 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson Andre Snead, and brother Michael Snead. He was ordained as a Deacon in 1995 at Grove Baptist Church (now Grove Church) and was a faithful member until his health issues affected his ability to attend. “Kookie’s” career expanded throughout several companies: Planters, Buck Office Supply, Joyce Office Supply, all in Suffolk, Corporate Express in Norfolk before being ventured off into entrepreneurship selling top quality menswear. He was well known for his suits, ties, and hat combos, and would be quick to give someone a free suit, tie or shirt! In his later years you could find him in front of the TV enjoying his favorite snack popcorn watching his favorite programs: Game Show Network, Court TV, Tubi, TruTv, and listening to Jazz, 70s, and 80s R&B on YouTube. He dedicated his weekends to being a full-time Pop-Pop: enjoying the company of his grandkids and great-grandkids every chance he got. “Kookie” enjoyed the game of pool and had a sense of humor like no other; he would make you laugh, each time you were in his presence you would leave with a heart full of love and laughter.” Kookie” will be truly missed by many.
