Shirley Frances Jordan

Shirley Frances (Rolack) Jordan was born on May 2, 1939 in Gates County, North Carolina to the late Robert and Easter Rolack. Shirley was a very kind, friendly, and joyful individual who loved serving the Lord. She was well loved by those who knew her. The memories of her kindness, her efforts to help those she loved, and her precious smile will remain with us forever. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at a very early age and was a lifelong and faithful member of Noble Street Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board, Missionary Board, and supervised the Youth Ushers. She was a faithful servant that allowed the Lord to use her in any other capacity and never missed Sunday school. Shirley was educated in the Portsmouth Public School system and a graduate of I. C. Norcom High School. After high school, she went on to earn an Associates Degree in Fashion Design from Norfolk State Institute (currently University). Shirley loved working with children and was employed with the Portsmouth Public School system for over forty years. Although she had retired, she still continued to occasionally work as a substitute teacher. In addition, she worked as a seamstress at Smith and Welton for a number of years. Shirley enjoyed being active in various organizations which included the Red Hatters, I.C. Norcom Alumni Association, Class of ‘56, and Senior Stations, and activities which included her weekly Introduction to Computer class. She was also a member of the Benton Family Reunion committee since its inception in 1981. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Mr. Shirley K. Jordan and her brother Robert Lee Rolack, Jr. She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her four children, Sheila Marie of Ellicott City, MD, Christopher David (Antoinetta) of Tampa, FL, E. Denise, and Cora Kimbilee (Antonio) both of Portsmouth, VA. Her two sister Rosa O. Lassiter of Washington, DC and Brenda Rolack of Portsmouth, VA. Her two sister-in-laws, Catherine Robinson and Teresa Jordan of Waterbury, CT, fifteen grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. - Lovingly The Family My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. – Psalm 73:26.
