Reverend Andrew S. Chapman

Reverend Andrew Stephen Chapman was born in Portsmouth, VA on November 15, 1949, the son of Flossie Irene Harris Chapman and Thead Chapman. He departed this life on Monday, February 9, 2026 at Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth. Reverend Andrew Chapman attended Portsmouth Public School. He graduated from I.C. Norcom High School in January, 1968 and later graduated from Norfolk State University in 1972. In high school, he was a proud Patrol Officer. He shared lots of fond memories with his classmates in the Homeroom of Ms. Wimbush. Reverend Chapman began his professional career with the American Red Cross in the 1970’s. After returning to Portsmouth, VA, he worked in a Boys Group Home as a counselor. It was in the state of Texas when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. After moving back to Portsmouth, VA in the early 1990’s he became a faithful and devoted member of Third Baptist Church on October 11, 1992. Reverend Chapman served in many areas of the ministry like The Andrew Brothers, Baptist General Ministry, Church School, Daily Bread Ministry, Evangelist Team, Feed the Homeless Ministry, Intercession Prayer Ministry, the driver for the Lott Carey Ministry, Male Chorus, Prayer Band, Vacation Bible School and the Wednesday Nite Bible Talking and Prayer Ministry. Reverend Andrew Chapman was preceded in death by his parents, Flossie and Thead Chapman; his grandmother Cora Bush; wife, Julia Mae Walls Chapman; siblings, Evelyn L. Chapman, Thad Chapman, Jr., Barbara J. Cutler, Lonnie E. Chapman, Percy C. Chapman, Willie J. Chapman, Cora Anne Chapman and Reginald Douglas Chapman; sister-in-law, Laura Chapman; nephew, David Shilito and great niece, Sarah Cutler. Reverend Chapman leaves to cherish his precious memories, his nieces and nephews, Regina (Darrel, Jr.) Parson, Yvonne De Shilito, Petrina (Joseph, Jr.) Branch, Theodore (Tanya) Cutler, Jr., Dominic (Danielle) Cutler, Richard (Stephanie) Chapman, Thaddius (Lauranda) Chapman, Sr., Terence (Anitra) Cutler, Willie Chapman, Jr., and Stephanie Chapman; great nieces and nephews, Steven, Jared, Amari, Aiden, Ashanti, Thaddius, Faith, Theodore, 3rd, Naomi, Demetria, Epiphani, Cameron, Thaddius, Jr., Tyler, Lauryn, Madison, Miles, ChanQue, Deanna, LaShae, Aliyah, Zaria, Jasmine, Rose, Wesley, Alex, Cameron, Raven and Anthony, great-great nieces and nephews, S’Amiria, Royalti, Kash, Londyn, DaVion, Andrea, Aiden; brother-in-law, Pastor Emeritus Theodore T.
