Myrtle E. Jenkins

Myrtle Elizabeth Ayers-Jenkins, Evangelist, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 15, 2009 surrounded by family at the home of her daughter. Myrtle was the eldest daughter of the late George W. Ayers, Sr. and Mary Collins Ayers , she was born in Painter, VA on November 27th, 1945. Myrtle attended Accomack County Public Schools and later moved to New Jersey where she completed her education. In October 1974, she answered her call to the ministry. She was ordained by the late Bishop Prince Howard of Cleveland, Ohio. She was the pastor of Prince House of God Church in Camden, New Jersey for a number of years and has ministered in other places such as Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. Being an avid crusader for Christ, while on the Eastern Shore she connected to various ministries such as Oasis Of Deliverance, Pastor J. Gatlin, The Living Word Church of God In Christ, “Charter and Founding Member” Bishop Tony White and Foundation of Faith Ministries, Bishop David A. Sabatina. Known to many as “Mother Myrtle”, she dedicated her life to helping others. In 1986 she became a director of an outreach program and homeless shelter for the mentally ill as well as counselor for “WAR” Women Against Rape, were she would counsel rape victims and battered women. In 1992, Myrtle full of ambition to change lives, opened the “MJ’S Health Food Store” in an attempt to bring a healthier way of eating to the Eastern Shore. She was an active member in the community and her church, volunteered her time with hospice and from time to time has opened her doors to the homeless and has been a mother to the “motherless”. Myrtle was a visionary with an entrepreneur spirit. She was Owner of MJ’s Creations and the Founder of the MINISTRY OF S.A.R.A.H. (serenity * atonement * restoration * and health*), a prayer ministry and nonprofit organization to assist those in need of food and clothing. Myrtle is survived by three children, Patricia Dickerson (Walter) of Cheriton, Larry Ayers (Helen) of Cheriton, and Roddrick Jenkins, Sr. (Latosha) of Norfolk; a niece whom she raised as a daughter, Chyrl Pettyjohn – Dennard; two sisters, Isabelle Marie Ayers of Keller, Deborah Daniels of Painter, Virginia and a brother, George Stevens, Salisbury, MD. Two adopted sisters, Bertha Buchanon, Hampton , VA and Ethel Maddox-Hicks, Camden, NJ. She was predeceased by a brother, George W. Ayers, Jr.; 12 grandchildren: Marcus, Shawn, Sharde, Lorese, Larry, Latrell, Jermaine, Antwuan, Princeton, Roddrick, Jr., Tyler and Eric. 11 great grandchildren, 6 godchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
