Mary Wright Gay

Mary Wright Gay affectionately known as "Margaret" or “Mag” received her wings Sunday, February 16, 2025 @ Sentara Belle Harbour. She was born on May 23, 1957 in Georgetown, SC to Andoris Wright and the late James Wright. Mary attended John Yates High School in Suffolk County, where she graduated in 1975. She also, attended Smithdeal-Massey Business College in Richmond, VA. Mary worked at Fort Monroe, VA from (1980-1984). She worked for Design & Digital Marketing Service at Newport News Shipyard from (1984-1987) as a Graphic Aide Web Designer. Then she was a former Military Personnel Clerk for the U.S. Government from (1987-2016). She was also Assistant HR for U.S. Navy from (2016-2024). Mary retired from the federal government January 2024 after 44 years of service. After retirement she worked at Jackson Hewitt & Nothing Bundt Cakes. Mary was a humble and faithful servant to the Lord. She began her Christian journey at St. Timothy Baptist church in Suffolk, Va then in 2005 she began to fellowship with her husband at Trinity Faith Diamond , where she was a member of the Praise Dance Ministry (Joy Dancers) and Power Team Ministry. Mary also enjoyed life itself by traveling, trying new restaurants, hanging out with family & friends. Most importantly she love her grandchildren right by her side. Mary was predeceased by her loving family members;her loving husband Cedric P. Gay, James Wright (father), and Nigel Burgess (son-in-law). Mary leaves in mourning her daughter Andrea Allmon and mother Andoris Wright; three grandchildren Trevell Wright-Copeland, Isiah Wright-Allmon, Niaija Wright-Burgess and one great-grandchild: DeChell Wright-Copeland; A special granddaughter; Journey Sexton; step-children: David Allmon, Carla Rodgers, and Chiqula McCabe; Aunts: Maggie Myers, Donna Ross, Lou Bertha Myers - All in Georgetown, South Carolina, Davidlena Hill (Donald) -Williamsburg, VA; Thomasena Lyndsey, New Haven, CT; Carol Landry (Paul)-New Haven, CT; Uncles: Lee Jackson Myers, Rayford Myers (Earlene), Presitly Myers (Teresa) - All in Georgetown, South Carolina, Mother-in-law Carolyn Gay of Norfolk, VA; three sister-in-laws: Rita McCoy of VA Beach, Vanessa Hamilton of Chesapeake, VA, Adrienne Joyner of Dallas, NC; two brother-in-laws: Roderick Coles (Deborah) of Fayetteville, NC and Elvin Gay (Margaret) of Portsmouth, VA; Special friends; Patricia Williams, Annette Saunders, Cynthia Smith and Cynthia Stovall; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; as well three devoted bonus children Taqueesha Frazier-Overton, Karolyn Franklin, and Kevin Sawyer.
