Margie Deloris Godwin

Margie D. Godwin was born on May 3, 1938 in Norfolk, Virginia to Anzella J. Burgess & Carlister Holloman. She was the third of six children that grew up in the Taylorsville area of Portsmouth, Virginia, up until her teenage years where she migrated to the Mt. Hermon neighborhood of Portsmouth, Virginia. She later moved to Jeffery Wilson Homes where she continued to raise her family, four boys and two girls. She was a hard worker and dedicated her life to her children. She did not let her circumstances stop her from her accomplishments. She prided on education, so much that in her 40's she received her GED at I.C. Norcom High School. All while working multiple jobs and taking care of her family. She did not believe in the word can't and would say "you are a Holloman". After Margie retired from the Portsmouth School System, she moved to Hampton, Virginia which became her permanent residence. Margie "M. G ."Godwin was a no-nonsense woman that commanded respect, she was known to tell it like it is and pulled no punches. She loved hard and was giving. She would give a shirt to the shirtless, meal to the hungry and drink to the thirsty. Her doors were always open. You knew what to expect from her, but every moment was a teachable moment. Margie has touched so many lives in so many different ways. Whichever way she touched you she left an indelible mark on you. She has created so many memories and will forever live on with us through those memories. Margie was preceded in death by her husband William Godwin, her parents Carlister and Anzella "Annie" Holloman, her brother Donald Holloman, her sisters Velma Brown and Constance Elliott, and her great granddaughter Taileah Worrell. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children; Steven Holloman (Janice) of Newport News, VA; Michael Holloman (Tammy) of Portsmouth VA; Avis Garland (Louis) of Chesapeake VA; William H. Holloman (Mary) of Hampton VA; Angela King (Karl) of Portsmouth VA; and Larry Holloman (Monique) of Portsmouth VA. Her siblings: Annie Mae Coley, William C. Holloman and Carlretha Holloman all of Portsmouth VA. She is also survived by her 17 grandchildren, 30 1/2 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, a special niece Constance "Ann" Trotter and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. On October 20,2020, GOD called her home to rest. Margie will be missed here in the present, but her pain and suffering has ceased and she is in the comforts of her father. Until we meet again!
