Macey Magalene Dixon

Macey M. Dixon went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on July 2, 2015. She loved the Lord and her husband with all her heart. Deaconess Dixon was born on February 23, 1935 in Wake County, NC to the late Hubert A. Harris and Callie Richardson Harris. She was educated in the Wake County Public School System at W. E. Dubois High School and was a member of 1952. In 1962, she moved to Providence, RI. After several year, she decided to attend Kee Business College and graduated in 1969. In 1976, Deacon Dixon was transferred to Naval Station Norfolk and decided to make Portsmouth their home. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for over 38 years, where she served as Deaconess, and member of the Beautification Club, Senior Missionaries, Vacation Bible School, Wednesday Evening Bible Study, BTU/Sunday School Congress, Youth Missionaries, and First Lady Alfreda Knight Golden Age Club. Macey is the one who suggested to the First Lady to change the name to Alfreda Knight Golden Age Club. She also started the Alfreda Knight Praise Dance Ministry, bought dresses, and they practiced at her home. Sister Dixon had a successful business called “Phase One Gifts and Imports.” She needed reminders that she was running a business, because she would give clothes away for half-price. She would say God gave me a LOT of blessings. She ran her business for many years until her health started to fail her. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, four daughters, Donna (Ryta) Barnes, Debra Frieson (Herb) of Portsmouth, VA; Gertha Anthony (Christopher) of Norfolk, VA; Pamela Petifer (Tyrone) of New Bern, NC; and her niece, Aileen Harris, whom she raised; four sons, Anthony Yarborough, Charles Dixon, Jr., DaJuan Dixon (Cynthia), all of Portsmouth, VA; and Kevin Dixon (Erica) of New Bern, NC. She also leaves two sisters, Barbara Ferrell of Providence, RI, Alene Perry of Raleigh, NC; three brothers, Hubert Harris Eddy Ruth) of Providence, RI, Herbert Harris (Gwen) of Roxboro, NC; and Ernest Harris (Ruby) of Raleigh, NC; one sister-in-law, Shirley Armstrong of New Bern, NC; and brother-in-law, Daniel Dixon (Inette) of Montgomery, AL; thirty grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Macey was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Charles Dixon, Sr., daughter, Marsha McBride and sons, Kenneth Yarborough and Stephon Dixon; brothers, James and Herman Harris; and sister, Bessie Brown. She will be greatly missed.
