Louise Katherine Lofton

Louise Katherine Brown Lofton was called home to be with the Lord on November 1, 2018. She was born to the late Wilbert and Elnora Brown. From this union there were 4 children born of which she was the youngest. After the death of her mother at the age of 5 years old, her father re-married and she was blessed to have Lucille Brown as her mother. From this union 10 children were born. She received her education in Seaboard, North Carolina. Louise accepted Christ in her life at an early age. After moving to Portsmouth, VA, she became a member of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church where she has been a member for over 60 years. She served various ministries such as the Diaconate Board, the Number 2 Usher’s Board and assisted with serving the children in the Summer Enhancement Program. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was a faithful member until God called her home. In the community, Louise was a faithful member with the Red Hat Society of Portsmouth, VA and the Portsmouth Senior’s Organization. She loved participating in the various field trips, community services’ activities and monthly luncheons with these organizations. She loved to dress-up in the Purple outfits and the red hats. She was very fond of this tight-knit group of women as they experienced new friendships, enriched lives and provided support in very powerful ways both among themselves and within the community. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jimmie Lofton, Sr., her son Jimmie Lofton, Jr., and her grandson Charles A. Hicks, Jr. In addition to being predeceased by her parents, she was also predeceased by 4 siblings. Her memories will forever be cherished by her children: Rosa Lee Snead of Richmond, VA, Louise Hicks (Charles) of Portsmouth, VA, Elnoria Harrison (Clifton) of Chesapeake, VA, Milinda Towns of Portsmouth, VA, Karen Harrell (Joseph) of Portsmouth, VA, and Henrietta Lofton of Portsmouth, VA. Her 6 brothers: Wilbert Brown, Jr. (Joyce), Willie Brown (Clara), Thurman Brown (Theresa), Eddie Louis Brown (Cynthia) and Leon Brown (Belinda), all of Richmond, VA. Her 3 sisters: Lula Smith, Martha Boone and Marie Booker all of Richmond, VA. She was blessed with 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grand children and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
