Lloyd Bernard (Bernie) Jackson, Jr.

On August 6,1961, Lloyd Bernard Jackson, Jr. (Bernie) was born to the late Lloyd B. Jackson, Sr. and Felicia Williams Jackson, both of whom knew the importance of raising a child in the admonition of the Lord. As a very small child and young man, Lloyd attended Parochial school and the Basilica of Saint Mary's Catholic Church. Bernie was born in Portsmouth, Virginia, but became a life-long resident of Chesapeake, where he attended Deep Creek Schools and was an outstanding athlete on the gridiron throughout high school and as a student at Virginia State University that he affectionately dubbed "Big State." Lloyd obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Business from VSU which prepared him for a career in Economic Development, where he proudly served as a Senior Business Development Manager for the City of Virginia Beach and most recently for the past four years at Chesapeake Economic Development. Additionally, Bernie was an avid golfer and cyclist, and participated in rides for Tour de Cure. Bernie was initiated into Omega Psi Phi via the Zeta Iota Chapter of Portsmouth, Virginia in April 1984. Some of the Chapter Offices and Committees that Bernie held were Past Basileus, Keeper of Records and Seal, Assistant Keeper of Records and Seal, Assistant Keeper of Finance, Ways and Means Chairman, and Achievement Week Chairman. Bernie was also a committee member of Adopt a Highway, The Golf Tournament Committee, as well as the Boat Ride Committee. On the District Level, Bernie was on the District Achievement Week Committee. Some of the Honors presented to Bernie were 3-times Chapter Omega Man of the Year, Service Award (10 year, 25 year, and 30 year pins). Bernie was due to receive his 40 year pin at the Conclave this Summer in Tampa Florida. Bernie loved his Fraternity and was proud of the work that he did for Omega. In 1998, Bernie married his Loving and Devoted Wife Michele Harris Jackson. When Michele and Bernie were married, Bernie willingly and lovingly shared in the parenting of his daughter Tennille E. Middleton and son Cameron A. Middleton. From the union of Bernie and Michele, God blessed them with his pride and joy, his baby girl, Camille Joi Jackson. Bernie was a man of integrity and a family man who loved the traditions and bonds that were created when God favored him to lead his family in a way that was pleasing to God and honored his family. Bernie has been a faithful member of First Baptist Church South Hill under the Pastoral leadership of Rev. Michael R. Toliver, where he is also a member of the men's Ministry. Bernie transitioned this life for his heavenly home on March 1, 2024. He leaves to honor and cherish his memory his beloved wife Michele Jackson of 25 years, Daughter Tennille (Lena M.),Son Cameron (Lea M.), Daughter Camille Joi, Father and Mother Augustus and Idella Harris, Sisters Wanda Robinson (Duncan R.) and Angela Long(Kenneth), Brothers Augustus Harris,III(Sophia H.) Anthony Harris(Kirstie H.), Granddaughters Makaala Ambush, Chrissette Middleton, and Olivia Middleton and a host of Aunts and Uncles, cousins, family, and friends, including his brothers of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Lloyd will be greatly missed but we know that we can be confident in his eternal destiny that, "To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord" 2 Corinthians 5: 6-8.
