Linda W. Artis

The life of our beloved Linda Ann Walker Artis began on June 4, 1950 in Portsmouth, Virginia. Born to the late, James Allen Peters and Eunice Mae Walker she was the first of three girls. Affectionately called Linda Ann by just about all, she became known to quickly correct you informing one that my name is Linda, not Linda Ann. Linda Ann graduated Portsmouth Public Schools. After graduating from school, she was gainfully employed by Norfolk Naval Shipyard. After 35 years of faithful and dedicated service, she retired. Dubbed by husband and co-workers she was known as DBoss2U. She was Ms. Damage Control herself. Shortly after being employed at the shipyard, she met the love of her life, the late Milton L. Artis. They enjoyed 23 years of marriage. While no children were born to this union, they accepted the joyful privilege of raising her nephew as their son. Her unconditional loving spirit touched the life of many as she became “Aunt Linda” to everyone. Devoted to her faith, which was instilled in her at a young age, she was a member of Prince of Peace Church and Mount Calvary Baptist Church during her childhood, adolescent and young adult years. Her melodious voice could be heard lighting up those sanctuaries giving praise to God. Reaffirming her faith pilgrimage she later joined the Zion Bethel United Church of Christ under the direction of the late Dr. D.A. Peace, Sr. Linda served as a member of the New Senior Choir, Pastor’s Aide Ministry, and Senior Citizen Ministry while at Zion Bethel. Lind Ann was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Rosalind Morrison; and her mother, Eunice Walker. On Tuesday, March 17, 2020 she closed her eyes on this side to receive her wings in glory. She leaves to cherish fond memories: Pastor Hugo (Tanika) Morrison, a nephew she raised as her son; one stepson, Keith Jordan of Raleigh, NC; one granddaughter, Chelsea Haskins; one sister: Diane Carmack of Portsmouth, Virginia; two nieces: Raetoya Morrison and Ebonie Morrison; three nephews: Sharifee Morrison, and Ahman Morrison: twelve great nephews & nieces: D’Andre, Torrion, D’Angelo, Macala, Kyra, Ahmanie, Curan, Asante, Chloe, Amir, Amaya, Armani: one great-great niece, Ava; and one great-great nephew, Savage’, her great-Uncle, Rev. Dr. Milton Walker of El Paso, TX, cousin more like her big brother, Alston Walker (AJ). Also left to cherish her memories are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom she adored and her God-daughter, Yvette Renae Barnslater.
