Joyce Ann Flythe

On Thursday, December 30th, 2021 the Lord summoned for one of his precious children to return home. Joyce Anne Everett Flythe, 66, passed away at Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA. She was born on August 14, 1955 to the late Timothy and Odell Willie Everett. Joyce graduated from John Yates High School in 1973 in Suffolk, Va. She then continued her education at Norfolk State University where she received her Bachelors of Science degree in Special Education. She was employed for several years as a special education teacher. She later was a homemaker for the remaining years. Joyce was a member of The Nottaway Indian Tribe of VA, Inc. for several years, serving as a foundational tribal member, counsel man and leading the children's activities at annual Powwows. She was also a member of Faith Deliverance Christian Center in Norfolk, VA for many years. Joyce is preceded in death by her son, Harvey Hudson Flythe, Jr. and granddaughter, Eliza Rose Elliott. She is survived by her husband, Harvey Hudson Flythe, daughters, Stephanie Aldrina Flythe Elliott (Sean Elliott), Jonell Larie Flythe Heard (Nicholas Heard), sisters, Myra ValJean Everett Palin (Ernest Palin), and Eula Mae Whitehead. She is survived by several grandchildren, Mario Williams Jr, Gabrielle Heard, Kacin Heard, and Austin Elliott, who affectionately called her G'ma. She will be missed by her nieces, Erica Palin and Kendra Palin, her Aunts Thelma Hicks, Dorothy Cohen, and Frances Everett along with a host of cousins. In Joyce's time on this earth, she touched the lives of countless families and friends. Her kind words, laugh, and gentle demeanor was contagious to all that had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a blessing to all of those that loved her and a true inspiration to all that knew her. Joyce enjoyed traveling, trying out new recipes, and having a good time with family and friends. She especially enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren. She was truly a huge part of everyone's lives and she will truly be missed. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord 2 Corinthians 5:8
