John Madison, Sr.

John D. Madison was born on August 23, 1923 in Vienna, Georgia to the lovely Samuel and Mary Madison. They had 9 beautiful children. Seven of his siblings predeceased him. His only surviving sibling is his younger sister Irene Cooper. John also known as" Bud" grew up to be a loving and respectful young man. Bud was no stranger to hard work. That is why he was loved and respected by so many. And to mention his beautiful singing voice, Bud was blessed with an awesome singing voice and he exercised that gift throughout his life. He even recorded a few songs. Soon after graduation from high school, John joined the US Armed Forces in 1944 at the age of2 I. This time period was during the World War II. During his two years served, Sergeant John Madison received the Philippine Liberation Medal, an American Defense Service Medal, an Honorable Service Lapel Button and a World War II Victory Medal. He was a qualified welder and specialized at using the MM Rifle. Thank you for your sacrifice. His hard working days continued on for many years to come. John sharpened his welding experience at the Navy Shipyard for 18 years. Loving what he did, he worked for Norshipco-Norfolk Shipbuilding & Drydock for the next 20 years. If you knew John Madison, you knew he loved the Lord. John Madison joined Noble Street Baptist Church in 1964. He used his gifted voice in the sanctuary choir and male choir. At some time during the early years, John joined the deacon board. He was also a part of the Cottage Prayer Band as well as the men's ministry. Deacon John Madison served as a member at Noble Street Baptist Church for at least 52 years. With all the time John gave to work and church, he also found time to give to the Civic League Association. This association was for his neighborhood of Douglas Park. John was the treasurer at the Civic League meetings for many years. In John's early years, while still in the military, he met the beautiful Alice L. Vincent. They soon married and became the parents of 10 children. Larry Madison, Allen Madison (deceased), John D. Madison Jr., Regina Johnson, Norman Madison, Marilyn Vann (deceased), Dianne White (deceased), Sandra Jefferson, Reginald Madison (deceased), Marvin Madison. Alice Madison predeceased John in 1975. Three years later, John remarried. John Madison and Rosetta Madison married in 1978. The family was extended with her five adult children. They lived happily for the next 36 years. His doll, Rosetta Madison went to her final resting place in 2014. The Madison family tree has grown to a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
