John Lee Harrington, Sr.

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life filled with love, dedication, and resilience, we celebrate the life and legacy of John L. Harrington, Sr., who was born on June 4, 1959, in Portsmouth, Virginia. John was the beloved son of Mother Arlene Harrington and LaRue Harrington Sr., both of whom preceded him in death. He was raised with strong values of hard work, family, and perseverance that would guide him throughout his life. On October 23, 1997, John married the love of his life, Jannie Harrington. Together they built a loving home and shared many years of devotion, companionship, and treasured memories. John leaves behind his loving wife, Jannie Harrington; his children, Suzzette Taylor (Taiwan McQuillia), John L. Harrington, Jr. (Cornelia Harrington), and Arlene Harrington. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Cheyenne Taylor, De’Mari Taylor, Tai’Chyna Taylor McQuillia, Tai’Saun Taylor- McQuillia, Messiah Harrington-Outland, and Maddison Harrington-Winston. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Malachi Harrington-Winston. His legacy continues through his great-grandchild, Kaseem Taylor. John is also survived by his siblings, Charlie Parker (Beverly Parker), and Jonathan Harrington. He was preceded in death by his brother, LaRue Harrington Jr. (Laureen Harrington). He leaves to cherish his memory his nieces and nephews, Patrice Hines, Joenathan Hines (Tashwana Hines), and DeAndre (Dee) Harrington. He was preceded in death by his beloved niece, Netria (Nee Nee) Hines. In addition, he leaves behind a host of great-nieces, great nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever remember his kindness, wisdom, and presence. John was a dedicated and hardworking man who spent much of his career working in the Asphalt Paving industry with E.V. Williams. He later retired from Branscome, where he served as a respected Paver Operator. His strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect of all who worked alongside him. Outside of work, John found joy in music and fellowship. He loved playing the guitar and harmonica and had a gift for bringing people together through song and laughter. He was also an exceptional chess player, admired for his sharp mind, patience, and strategic thinking. Whether sharing music with family, teaching life lessons, or enjoying a friendly game of chess, John left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. John's life was a testament to perseverance, love, and devotion to family. His strength, wisdom, and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
