Jesse Joshua Slyvester Jenkins, Sr.

On December 26, 2025, our beloved Father, brother, uncle, grandfather and well-respected GOD-fearing man was led by the light of the LORD into glory. Mr. Jesse J.S. Jenkins, Sr., was born to the late Mr. Thomas and Mrs. Bessie (Lewis) Jenkins, in Norfolk County, Virginia on December 29, 1947. He was educated in the public schools of Chesapeake, Virginia. He worked and retired after 40+ years for BAE Systems Inc., as a machinist. Mr. Jenkins was formerly married to the late Laura Cuffee Jenkins of which two children were born from this union. Mr. Jenkins rededicated his life to the LORD under the stewardship and ministry of his brother Apostle Lloyd Jenkins, Sr., Pastor of The Way, The Truth, The Life Ministries, Norfolk, Virginia. An avid fan of the AFL team the San Francisco 49ers and baseball team the Mets, you could often find him at home relaxing, enjoying either team on television. After his retirement Mr. Jenkins did not let the grass grow under his feet, he was an active member of his church where he was elevated to Deacon. He was always the first one to arrive early on Sunday mornings to open up and ensure everything inside was in order. Once services started you would see him at the door to greet you with that ‘winning’ smile. He also traveled with family and friends whether it was for a church, sporting or family function…sometimes you had to coax him and other times he would be ready to ‘go’, but either way he enjoyed himself in the process. However, no matter what the occasion, you would always see Mr. Jenkins dressed to impress from head to toe, wearing his hats, his shades, and his jewelry. Mr. Jenkins was given the family nickname ‘GOAT’ and was also known to ‘joke you’ with his quick wit. You had to stay prepared when talking to him because he always had one for you. We will miss hearing him say ‘tighten up’ and ‘go head’, along with that infectious laugh. The void Mr. Jenkins leaves is irreplaceable, because whatever he was assigned to do he did it with perfection but in humility; and if it wasn’t right according to his standards, he worked on it until he was satisfied. This was not limited to physical labor, but in his relationships with his children, his family, his friends and most of all with his Lord and Savior, JESUS THE CHRIST. Mr. Jenkins leaves to mourn his passing his son Mr. Jesse (Diane) Jenkins, Jr., Williamsburg, Virginia; his daughter Ms. Tisha (Dave Silmon) Jenkins, Virginia Beach, Virginia; his brother: Apostle Lloyd (Carla) Jenkins, Sr., VA Beach, Virginia.; his sisters: Ms. Beverly Vann, Norfolk, Virginia; Ms. Linda Jenkins, Flint, Michigan; Mrs. Viola (Benjamin) Blunt, Portsmouth, Virginia; Mrs. Cornell (Pastor Garry) Gilchrist, Chesapeake, Virginia; fifteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
