James Jones, Jr.

James Howard Jones, Jr. (88) of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 22, 2019. James H. Jones (Jones, Juke) was born in Currituck, North Carolina to Howard Jones and Helen Overton Jones. Jones and his mother relocated to Norfolk, Virginia at his age of 16 years old where he met and married Catherine Isaac. Jones begin working for Flowers Bakery, also known as Sunbeam Bakery in Norfolk, Virginia for many years baking the Mary Jane bread, rolls and cinnamon buns. For all of you who grew up on Mary Jane bread, our father was one of the bakers baking that wonderful fresh bread we all made those cheese sandwiches with each day after school. Can you smell the fresh bread now?! After leaving the bakery, he went on to work for Carpet Crafters (Carl Snow) where he, Mr. Goodman, and Mr. Barnes worked installing carpet, tile, and vinyl throughout the Tidewater area in homes, businesses, and on government ships. He stayed with this company until the company closed its doors and this empowered him to open up his own company. His company was called Jones Carpet Shop and was located on 35th and Granby Street in Norfolk, Virginia. He and the entire Jones family worked in the family business for over 30 years before he retired and said, "I am going to go and seat in my recliner until my God calls for me". Well, on May 22, 2019 God called for him and he was in his recliner before he went to join his Godly family in heaven. His parents and four of his 11 children, daughter Barbara Jones McCoy, son Reginald Jones, son Kevin Jones and son Darryl Jones, plus two grandsons Tyrann Jones and Timothy Jones preceded him in heaven. It's their time now to be with him. Jones is survived by his wife Catherine Jones of seventy-two years, daughter Clarissa Jones, son James H. Jones Jr. (Paula), son Robert Jones, son Randolph (Linda), son Ray (Coreen), daughter Renita Jones Prince (Dr. Kevin), and his baby boy Clifton Jones (Pamela) and grandchildren raised in the home, Stephanie Jones Harris, Tracey Jones, Ray Jones, Jr., Taheria Jones Melvin and Tramica Jones and a countless host of grand, great grand, and great great-grandchildren. Jones also left to cherish his memory his brother (Howard Jones Jr. (Billie), brother Rufus Jones, sister Lydia Jones (deceased), sister Mary Ann Jones (deceased), brother David Jones (deceased), Keith Jones (deceased), Jessie Jones (Dorothy), John Jones (Gloria), sister Delores Jones Everett, sister Eve Jones Patterson (Pat) and Crawford Jones (deceased). Jones also was a member and on the Trustee Board at Antioch Baptist Church, Norfolk, Virginia in the early 1990's for many years. He also leaves behind countless family and friends that brought joy in his life and he brought hope in their lives, as his door and table were always welcoming for all to sit down and have a meal. The burial will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery where he will be laid to rest by his mother. DAD, YOU Will BE MISSED!
