Ida M. Carter Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Portsmouth- Ida M. Carter, 61, also known as Ms. Ida, of the 2000 block of Oak Leaf Place departed this life on Saturday, March 17 in Adairsville, Georgia. Ms. Carter was born in Hawkinsville, Georgia to Etheridge and Hattie Mae Johnson. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She was employed as a nurse with Mayfair Nursing Homes and Ryders at the Naval Hospital. Ms. Carter was a past member of New Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Portsmouth. She was also a member of the Washington Park Committee Council. Ms. Carter leaves to cherish her memory three daughters; Marie Rudd (Michael) of Adairsville, GA, and Lisa Carter Lavender (George) and Katrina Carter (Michael Owens) both of Portsmouth, VA and a son Michael Carter (Zina) of Portsmouth, VA. She also leaves four sisters Doris “Snoop” Johnson of Petersburg, Mammalee Brown of Miami, Florida, Dorothy Mae Savage and Charlotte Jones both of Portsmouth and three brothers; Reverend Joe Lewis Johnson, Kenneth Johnson and Lloyd Johnson all of Portsmouth, Virginia. Also left to cherish her memory are 11 grandchildren; Aaron Johnson, Kelsie Avila, Julian Avila, Shawntenise Carter, Twanisha Carter, Troyneka Carter, DeAnthony Carter, Michelle Carter, Joel Carter, Myisha Carter and Jasmine Carter and 6 great grandchildren; Destiny Johnson, Jasmine Johnson, Michael Johnson, Special Carter, Ne’Vaeh Yancy and Kyrese Carter. Ms. Carter also leaves Robert Long, Jr., a longtime companion of 31 years, godchildren; Tyrina Wilkins, JaMiya Spruill and Unika Parker and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to cherish her memory. Ms. Ida will truly be missed by all who knew her. Viewing will be on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 from 12 noon until 5 pm at the funeral home. A life celebration service will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2007 at 12 noon at First Baptist Church Camelot, located at 1008 Sir Lancelot Drive, Chesapeake. Reverend Cecil Wicker will be officiating. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery. J. T.
