Hilda M. Robbins

Hilda M. Albergottie Robbins, affectionately known as “Mallie”, transitioned to eternal rest on July 11, 2025, while her niece, Angie Albergottie-Taylor, was by her side. Hilda was born on January 25,1940 to Freddie and Katie Albergottie. She was the last surviving child of seven children. Predeceased by her maternal grandparents (Mr. & Mrs. Graham), paternal grandparents (Robert and Elizabeth Albergottie), brothers, (Fred Albergottie, Jr, Harold Albergottie, William Albergottie and Haskell Albergottie), and sisters (Agnes Albergottie and Inez Albergottie Sanders), and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her son, Eben Robbins; sister-in-laws, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins; and a host of friends. Hilda was educated in the New York School System and graduated from Eastern District High School (Brooklyn, NY). After graduating high school, she attended college and earned an associate’s degree. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church (Chesapeake, VA) and a member of the Busy Bee Seniors Group. During her life, she enjoyed spending time with her family, and she was the life of the party and laughter always followed her. She was usually one of the first people to reply to invitations. Hilda loved cooking while she was in good health and boy could she cook. Her family enjoyed eating her cooking too, especially her chicken, peas and rice, curry chicken, peppered steak, chicken and dumplings, and buttermilk pancakes. Hilda also liked to travel. She didn’t let the grass grow under her feet, so she went on many road trips, cruises, and to the casinos. She always brought back all types of souvenirs when she returned. Hilda had many crafting talents such as sewing, knitting, and crocheting, just to name a few. When her nieces were young, she would make clothes for them, and they loved them. She also encouraged a few of her nieces and nephews to learn how to sew. Whenever she heard what she called “good old music” she would sing, sway, rock or dance to it. Hilda also loved to play cards and Pokeno. But most of all, she loved going to what she called her job (“BINGO”). She also enjoyed being in the Busy Bee Seniors Group. She made many friends, touched many lives, provided lots of guidance and life lessons to anyone she encountered. She will be greatly missed. The Albergottie and Robbins families would like to thank the many friends who stayed in touch with Hilda and came to see her when her health declined.
