Helen Rose Williamson

Helen Rose Best Williamson, a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, peacefully transitioned early Sunday morning, July 24, 2016. Helen was affectionately known as "Ms. Helen", by many who knew her. She was born on July 20th, 1938, to the late Benjamin and Lucile Best in Clinton, NC. She attended J.T. Barber High School in Newbern, NC where she graduated as an honor graduate in 1957. Helen continued her studies at Lenoir Community College where she graduated as a Practical Nurse. Her nursing career began at Craven County Hospital, New Bern, NC and after relocating to Portsmouth, VA, she continued her career at Maryview Hospital as an Orthopedic Nurse. Helen was a faithful member of Celestial Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA for over 35 years and served on the Female Usher Board and Jolly Workers Ministry. She was known for having a passion for fashion, and enjoyed wearing her beautiful hats and dresses. She was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching a variety of sports. Traveling was also another passion of hers, as she traveled extensively throughout the United States. In her later years, her favorite pastime was completing the daily jumble and crossword puzzles. Helen enjoyed a good laugh and had a very keen sense of humor. Her giving spirit and witty remarks will be greatly missed. Above all things, she loved her children and family members. She was stern but loving, and only wanted the very best for her family. Helen is predeceased by her husband Roy M. Williamson Sr. and sisters Corona Best and Betty Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Lisa Williamson-Cashwell and Erica Orton both of Chesapeake, VA; sons, Larry Williamson (Patricia) of Savannah, GA, Gary Williamson of Tacoma, Washington and Roy Williamson Jr. of Portsmouth, VA; sisters, Annie Gibbs of Newbern, NC and Essie Walker of Jacksonville, NC; brothers, Herman Best and Benjamin Best both of Newbern, NC; sister in law, Sharon Williamson of Lima OH; brother in law, Jerry Williamson of Gurnee IL; grandchildren, Larry Williamson II, Irving Cashwell Jr., Cicy Orton, Latasha McKines, Shemeka McKines and Helena Williamson; five great grandchildren; special nephew, Stanley Best; best friend, Delores Mickle and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
