Helen Smith Reynolds

Helen Reynolds died June 2, 2023 at the age of 96, in Portsmouth, VA. She was born on December 9, 1926, the daughter of the late Arthur and Helen Smith. On April 10, 1947, she married Walter Reynolds. She served faithfully as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 60 years and had the privilege of studying the Bible with hundreds. She loved to read her Bible and spend time in prayer. She was known for her love for Jehovah. Her zeal for the ministry led her to serve in the full-time preaching work for many years. She was known to her friends as Helena, and affectionately known as Bigma or Bicka to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many will remember her as a feisty little woman, who had a skill for getting her way. She loved to tell anyone, strangers and friends alike, about their hair styles or fashion choices. She enjoyed listening to classical music and watching Bette Davis movies. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Hattie Stukes, Evelyn Johnson, Arthur Smith Jr, Herbert Smith, Melvin Smith, and her beloved husband, "Walter P". She is survived by her three children: Sandy Ivey, Ginny Reynolds, Ronnie (Alfreida) Reynolds; one sister: Mary (Nick) McIver; eight grandchildren: Darrin Ballard, Wayne (Kiki) Ballard, Nichole Yates, Kenny (Catina) Yates, Janelle (Robert) Peterson, Donnie (Shelly) Woods, Allison (Jamon) Bailey, Geoffrey Reynolds; eight great-grandchildren: Kaneesha Ballard, Wayne Ballard, Kiera Ballard, Trevon Boone, Deaunte Boone, Jayda Pressley, Gianna Peterson, Reid Peterson; two great-greatgrandchildren: Kinslee Johnson and Justice Boone; and a host of nieces, nephews, and a large spiritual family of friends. We would also like to give a special thanks to her nieces Cynthia Eley for her help in recent years and Annie Smith for the in-home care she provided prior to Helen moving back to Portsmouth, VA. Our family wishes to thank everyone for all the calls, texts, hugs, condolences, and prayers given that have supported us during this difficult time.
