Gloria Moore

Gloria I. Moore, 76, of Chesapeake, VA departed peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, July 18, 2016. Gloria was born to the late Jordon and Loraine Harris on April 21, 1940. Gloria was a native of Philadelphia, PA and Edgewater Park, NJ before moving to Virginia. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School system and was a proud graduate of Simon Gratz High School. Upon completions of high school, Gloria married Tilghman "Lew" Moore in 1957 and this union was blessed with two children, Lewis (Kevin) and Anthony. The matriarch of her family, Gloria lived to bring family and friends together, hosting holiday celebrations, cookouts, Sunday dinner, and any other outings that would bring together her family and friends. Everyone was welcomed and felt at ease in her home. The uniqueness of the Moore household was that Gloria and Lew also raised family members Derrick, Quinn, and Craig. She was known as the neighborhood "Mom" to all the kids. Gloria treasured being a wife and homemaker, nurturing her family until all the kids were grown. Once the nest was empty, she worked for Bayada Nursing as a home health care associate. One of her proudest moments was receiving her certification from the New Jersey Board of Nursing to practice as a home health care aide. Her mission was to spread love through valuing you as a person. Gloria, aka "Omi" to her grandchildren, never let you leave her presence without a full belly and an encouraging word. She always greeted people with an open heart, an open hand, and a gentle smile. Her favorite saying was "Come on in baby - ya hungry?" .Gloria attended Miracle of Faith Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA. Gloria was preceded in death by three of her siblings, William, Thomas, and Jeanette; and nephew Quinn. Left to cherish her memories are her loving sons Kevin (Judy) - Chesapeake, VA, Anthony (Kristin) - Houston, TX, Craig (Michelle) - Franklinville, NJ, and Derrick (Kim) - Pennsauken, NJ; husband Lew; sister Alice Hackney; grandchildren Falon, Logan, AJ, Christopher, Courtney, Taylor, Tara and Tyler, Antonio, LaShawnda, Antonio Jr., Destiny, James, Shaniya, and Kori; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members.
