Fannie "Frances" Delois Jenkins

Fannie "Frances" Delois Wells Jenkins was born on January 9, 1933, in Summit, Georgia, and departed this life on February 9,2014, in Suffolk, Virginia, where she had resided for the last five years. She was the daughter of the late Rochel and Sara Gibbons Wells. Frances, as she was affectionately known, migrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with her family when she was ten years old. She was a product of Philadelphia's public schools and a graduate of its Bartram High School. Mrs. Jenkins studied at Drexler University in Philadelphia. After a distinguished career at the Social Security Administration, Sister Frances retired as a GS-9 in 1992. She also worked for the Internal Revenue Service and the Philadelphia Public Library in earlier years. She was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church of Portsmouth, Virginia. Our departed Christian sister leaves a void in the lives of her loved ones. This devoted mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, concerned sister, and cherished friend was an avid reader who possessed a love for music, having had the good fortune to be afforded private piano lessons. Frances could accomplish anything she set her mind to do. A lady of solemn resolve and commitment, Frances Jenkins was unpretentious. Her interests included family, gardening, and traveling. Before relocating to the Hampton Roads area, Frances Jenkins served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was a church youth choir director for several years while residing in the City of Brotherly Love. Preceded in death by her parents and a son-Joseph Jenkins III, Mrs. Jenkins leaves a proud legacy that will be fondly remembered by a daughter-Janice Delois Jenkins of Philadelphia; three sons-John Roshell Jenkins of Suffolk, Virginia (Gwendolyn); Jeffrey Keith Jenkins of Edmond, Oklahoma (Jan); and Jerald Stefan Jenkins of St. Louis, Illinois (Cynthia); a brother-Willie Wells of Jamaica, New York; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two close cousins-Johnny Parrish of Savannah, Georgia, and Leroy Johnson, Jr., of Brooklyn, New York; and a host of friends and other relatives. Special appreciation is extended to Mr. Joseph Jenkins, Jr., and his wonderful help mate, Mrs. Dorothea Jenkins, for their uncompromised love, support, and guidance. Deep appreciation is also given to All Heart Home Health and Hospice, Gentiva Hospice, a cadre of private nursing assistants that provided around the clock care during her last two years while residing at home, and the Nansemond Pointe (Suffolk, Virginia) nursing staff.
