Dorothy Jean Perry Linney

On Sunday, December 10, 2023, God put his loving arms around his Heavenly Angel, Dorothy Jean Perry Linney and whispered suffer no more, it is time to come home. Dorothy was born November 11, 1941 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Dorothy Sellers and Louis Perry Sr. Sister, Constance Brown and Brother, Louis Perry Jr. predeceased her in death. Dorothy grew up in the Newtown and Cavalier Manor section of Portsmouth, Virginia. She was educated in the Portsmouth and Chesapeake School System, graduating from Crestwood High School in 1960. After graduating, she moved to Brooklyn, New York where she married Lionel Linney in 1964. She gained employment at C & P Telephone Company as a Customer Service Representative and retired after 30 years of service in 1999. She accepted Christ as a child and was baptized at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Although young in age, she strongly supported the Sunday school, Sunday Morning and Evening Worship Services, Vacation Bible School and Wednesday Evening Baptist Training. As a faithful servant of the Lord, she would often read the Bible to the sick and elderly in the community. She sang in a relationship trio with her brother Louis and sister Constance. She later became a member of First Baptist Church of Crown Heights. Dorothy was a very dedicated, devoted and loving wife for 59 years. She loved nothing more than being a wife. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends. She selfishly gave her time to anyone in need in any way she could. You could always count her to pick your mail and keep your keys with her displaying her southern drawl. Dorothy had a caring and compassionate heart. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of 59 years Lionel Linney of Brooklyn, NY. Her niece/daughter Ronita Lamb of Portsmouth, VA. Sister in laws Valerie Askew of Atlanta, GA. Kathy King of Chesapeake, VA. Brother in law Charles Smith of Chesapeake, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Special Acknowledgment goes to Jerry Duckworth who has traveled without hesitation from Virginia and Marilyn Jarrett (best friend) from New Jersey to assist in the care of Dorothy in her later days and the family is forever grateful and thankful for their dedication.
