Deacon Raymond Turner

Friday, October 28, 2016, God said, “well done, my good and faithful servant” to our beloved Deacon Raymond Turner. Raymond was the son of the late Shirley and Louise (Faltz) Turner of Southampton County, Virginia. Raymond was born August 1, 1961. In his early childhood years, Raymond was a member of Saint Luke Church AME, Sedley, Virginia. He attended Southampton High School located in Courtland, Virginia. Raymond was married to the lovely bride God spiritually designed and crafted just for him, Linda J. Turner of Portsmouth, Virginia. Raymond and Linda met while working at Smithfield Packing in 2003. They became great friends and they continued their friendship as it blossomed into a beautiful union. They held hands and whispered holy vows of matrimony and life lasting commitment to one another on June 12, 2004. They have four children- Tasheba Jones (25), Marterrio Jones (22), Nyasia Jones (14) and Raemesha Turner (11) and one granddaughter, M’Ziya Williams (4). Raymond Turner was one who honored, loved and devoted himself to God. He was a dedicated husband, an exceptional father, a hard-worker, a gracious uncle, and a loyal brother. Raymond loved his job driving trucks for Shared Hospital Services in Portsmouth, Virginia. Raymond was friendly and would surely leave you a Word from the Lord before he left your presence. Raymond was a faithful, energetic and devoted Deacon at New Testament Church, Portsmouth, Virginia; where he continued to glean spiritual knowledge and insight from his BELOVED Bishop Jerome L. Williams, Elder Shajuan Williams and their family. He loved them dearly. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents. Left to hold and cherish his fond and precious memories is his wife, children, father-in-law, William Brown and eleven siblings: Queen E. Bryant (Herbert), Shirley Turner, Robert Turner, John T. Turner, Brenda Turner (Calvin), Diane Turner, Annette Turner, Melvin Turner, Jeanette Stith, Linwood E. Turner, and Maxine Turner-Williams. Raymond and Melvin were brothers but they shared a very special bond and they were BEST friends. Also, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends whom he loved dearly.
