Deacon Leon Manigan, Sr.

Deacon Leon Manigan Sr. of the 4000 block of Marlin Ave, Suffolk, VA was called from service to reward on February 24, 2020 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He was born May 21, 1934 to Phillip and Dorothy Mae Southall. He is the second oldest of eight siblings. He was better known to his siblings as “Nome”. He received his education at I. C. Norcom High School and Tidewater Community College in Portsmouth, Va Leon was married to Evangelist Olympia E. Manigan whom he loved and cherished for 58 years. They have five children: Linda Elizabeth Fondren - Richmond, Va Marilyn M. Franklin (Christopher) - Waldorf, MD Tara Lee Felton (Timothy) - Richmond, Va Leon Manigan, Jr. (Holly) - Huntsville, AL Horace Lyle Manigan (Freya) - White Plains, MD In 1974 Sergeant Leon Manigan Sr. retired after 20 years in the US Air Force. Leon was a civilian employee of the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Va. with 27 years of honorable service retiring as Voucher Examinator. Deacon Leon Manigan Sr. received Christ at an early age. He joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where he was A dedicated and faithful member until his passing. He served Leon was an avid “CRABBER” and loved to play games. He was dedicated to supporting financially the American Cancer Association and St Judes Children Research Hospital. He really loved dressing up as Santa Claus every year at the Naval Hospital to bring joy and smile to the children and his grandchildren. Leon had a love for all sports and in his earlier years he participated on I. C. Norcum sports team and was a member of the Air Force Intramural Football team in Lakenheath England. He was A lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans-DAV Chapter 41-Cradock He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife, Olympia; his children, Linda, Marilyn, Tara, Leon Jr. And Horace. He also leaves to cherish his memory 15 Grandchildren: Robin, Philip, Tymika, Terrell (deceased), Priscilla, Garry, Tia, Onquah, Faith, Layah, Hope, Leon III, Joshua, DaejaAnn, Sydney. Additionally he is survived by 9 great grandchildren, 5 siblings: Dorothy, Rosa, Dennice, Lenora and Phillip and the Aldridge Family, Brian, Nincy, Jeremiah, Joshua and Jacob along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives
